Should I make this deal?
I am getting a '12 G37xS COUPE with 15,000 miles for $35,000 all-inclusive (tax, title, registration, dealer fees). Car is fully loaded, illuminated sills, navigation, Premium package, Bose. What do you guys think?
I don't know your tax rate, but I think you might be able to do a bit better. I figure you're around $33 for the car before taxes/fees? It would be helpful to post this information as states very considerably in their taxes/registration and dealerships in their fees.
Hi Matt, this is in Massachusetts. I am at 32.5k for the car. It is not CPO but it does have two years of oil changes and tire rotations.
I think the price is in the ballpark. How long has it been on the lot? Tire Condition? Was it traded in or purchased at auction (Whenever I am evaluating the price of a car I am trying to uncover what they are into the car for, how much they had to put into the car to get it sale ready [In this case likely very little as it is a low mileage '12] and what comparable cars are going for). Are you financing w/ the dealer/trading? Any issues? I would offer 28.5-29k and try to be firm @ 31-31.5 depending how much you want it. This car is one of the most "loaded" G37's (coupe, AWD+Sports package which on the coupe you get the sport suspension+basically all the other options) out there under an IPL). In evaluating if this is a good deal, I rate it against an IPL, where it should be at least 2k+ less. '11 IPLs are going for 30.5-34k with comparable low mileage. '12 IPLs going for 35-37k with comparable mileage. 2k under the 35 puts us around where you're at, so it leans me to think it's somewhat in the ballpark as a starting price for negotiation. I still think they have room in the car and would push for lower. As always, have it inspected by an indy mechanic specializing in Infiniti as condition to purchase even if everything looks great. GL
Passport Infiniti has a '12 CPO w/ 33.3k miles for 33k. Same car, Xs loaded.
Alpha Motorsports '11 16k miles, 30k Same car, Xs loaded. I think this one is a pretty decent deal and good starting point for negotiations if it's in nice shape.
Keep in mind Infiniti CPO does NOT include electronics and you should try to negotiate "wrap' coverage in your deal to include them, otherwise they want around $1000 for this!

Thanks for the very detailed response. You have no idea how much I have learn from you.
So, I am going to get an independent mechanic take a look at the car. The car was listed at 36k, I brought it down to 32.8~. So with tax, title and registration the car will come to a nice 35.5 out of the door. This car was a lease return.
15k miles, black tint, it is in just pristine condition. Tires are new and the rims are perfect.
So, at 35.5 all inclusive with two years of oil changes and tire rotations thrown in. It is not CPO. What do you think?

Make sure the tint is legal in Mass, I believe it's 35% which is not very dark. If it's limo tint have them remove it as it's illegal and having lived in Boston for school, you WILL get ticketed! I don't give much value to the oil changes/tire rotations and wouldn't really consider that a big selling point. I would try to get it down to 30-31.5 and be firm on it. That's a fair price imo given the "new" tires- are they really new? Car shouldn't need new tires at 15k.
Its a little on the high side, how many cars have you looked at? You can definitely get an IPL for $35K OTD.
You are doing the right thing by having an independent mechanic check it out. Like MattR82 mentioned, these cars have a lot of electronics so, having that in your warranty is important.
Bottom line...it all depends, if you really like the car, and the numbers work for you then go for it. but don't compromise. I wanted a 6MT but also test drove autos and paddle shifts, but stick is way more fun (for me), but I was having a hard time finding a stick plus everything else that I wanted, but I waited and finally got the car that I wanted.
There are a lot of cars out there so do shop around.
