Coupe or Vert?

For my last year of college I have wanted a G35 or G37. Now I have graduated, and am working in a career and have made a decision to buy a G37 by my birthday in November.

Anyways, now I don't know which one to buy. I really wanted a convertible but I've heard there are some bad rattles and minor leaking problems. I love the coupes but the verts with the top down are truly sexy. Im trying to stay around $25k because I figure with a $5k down payment I would only be financing $20k + insurance puts me right where I want to be per month.

Either way I want an auto (I sit in traffic too much for a manual), the S trim (or an IPL if I can get the perfect price and its worth it), white with the black interior, Nav, etc..

If anyone has any advice good or bad, that would be awesome!

Btw, Im not new to the Nissan/Infiniti family.. My mom had 5 Maximas, I had an 04 Maxima, and currently have a 2000 Q45 thats going through a VIP build.

$25k for a vert? You looking for a flood car?

Go research asking prices for G37's on AutoTrader and Cars.com.

And you won't find an IPL in the 20k range at least not wrecked. Really at 20k you should look into other vehicles, not to be a downer but at 20k your going to get a high milage G. You can do much better with another car that will be low milage and do what you need. Wait till you can actually afford the G before jumping in. Who knows by then you may want soemthing else.

IMO, there are better quality convertibles out there. It's not intention to hate on the G37 Vert or vert owners, that's just my opinion.

Last Fall, I had a friend loan me his 2010 6MT Vert for a week, and I had a chance to live with it on a daily basis. It taught me a few things: one, I really didn't want a coupe, I wanted a sedan. Two, the convertible was both fascinating and useless at the same time (in Upstate NY). And three, that is one very heavy car.

Re-read that last point, please. The vert is stupidly heavy. If you prioritize performance, it kind of defeats the purpose of getting a G37.

Fascinating to watch go up and down, though. Here's a vid of my kid operating the roof:

Thanks for the advice everyone I think Im going with the coupe. I talked with my boy whos a Infiniti technician he said as cool as the verts look they prob arent the best daily drivers.

I want a G coupe over a sedan because I feel like being single (well with gf lol) is less than having a family and kids so now is the time to have some toys and have my fun. If I dont get a G, my only other coupe Im interested in would be a 350 or 370Z but I dont like the way they look for some reason.. Even though they are both the same underneath lol.

This is along the lines of what Im seeing in my area:
Cars for Sale: 2008 Infiniti G37 in Warner Robins, GA 31088: Coupe Details - 324323301 - AutoTrader.com

...Just in white

Up until 2 weeks ago, I drove a loaded '09 G37 sport coupe and recently swapped it for a new vert (also with a 6 speed). Having owned both, I would say that both are excellent cars and it really comes down to what you want in a car. The vert is heavier but it's still quick. Both are a bit impractical as they have a small trunk and a questionable back seat. You'll feel much more in touch with the road in the coupe, but I find the convertible rides better (aside from a bit of body roll). The convertible also turns a lot more heads than the coupe ever did.

The folding hardtop is (perhaps obviously) the biggest advantage to the G37 convertible and there are only a few convertibles that have these. Having looked at a lot of other convertibles recently, I can say without a doubt that I wouldn't want to have a soft top convertible. Road noise is a problem for most soft tops and visibility is almost a universal problem. In contrast, the hard top G37 feels and sounds almost exactly like my coupe when the top is up. While there's a bit more noise, the visibility is excellent.

With regard to the comment on "prioritizing performance", I wouldn't go so far as to say the convertible defeats the purpose of buying a G37. Frankly, if you're buying a G37 solely for the performance, there are faster cars on the market for less money.

Who said "solely for the performance"? "Prioritize performance" and "solely for the performance" are two different things.

But I'm with you, brother, because I love rephrasing words to suit my argument.

As with many other debates around here, in the final analysis it is a matter of personal preference. If you can get around the inherent attributes of leaks and rattles, it often depends on the type of driving that the owner will use most often. If you’re often on busy freeways to go to work, the noise and wind clatter are not the best convertible environments especially in hot weather. On the other hand, there’s nothing more satisfying than whizzing down a country road on a nice day with the top down feeling the enjoyment of open air driving.

If given a choice the best solution is having both; a daily driver for practical transportation, and a convertible to buzz around in and have fun with on weekends.

The vert is pretty cool. I don't see too much of that.

I have owned both the coupe and the vert. They both have their advantages. I am very happy with when the top is down on my vert. However, I have already taken it to two different dealerships over the last year and a half to have the latches replaced because of bad squeaking and also to have rattles "fixed." (I have that in quotes because they are never really fixed. It is a hard top convertible and it will inherently have some noise... however, from what I understand these noises are particularly bad in this car)

Either one is a great choice. It just depends on what is practical for you (space/where you live in regard to how often you can use a vert during the year/budget).

Good luck with the search and decision!

I think Ive pretty much settled on the coupe. I would like a convertible but since Ill be using it as a DD, I do need to be as practical as possible (I guess). I did consider dailying my Q but with 273k I think its time to retire it to weekend status. Plus, I can slam it and camber since I wont have to deal with that every day lol.

Can anyone tell me the difference between the 09 and 10 G37s? Besides price, I dont know what the other differences are much less the packages. I just know I for sure want:

G37 Coupe
Paddle Shifters
Nav
White/Black
Hard Drive
Heated and Cooled seats? <-Were those an option?
Akebono brakes
...basically as fully loaded as possible

thanks guys I feel like Im finally making progress!

No cooled seats in the G. No heated steering wheel, either. Both which are kind of disappointing.

If you think you're going to find a 2010 G37S Coupe with a purchase cap of $25k, that's pretty optimistic.
