new member here, looking for G37s or G37x

Hi, I'm new in this forum. I'm debating buy a 2008 G37s 6MT or a 2009 G37x 7AT. I'm attracted by the 7AT ATTESA E-TS AWD system.
Are there any problems with between these 2 models ? and which model is better in your own opinion ? I'll use the vehicle for daily commute.

thank you

comes down to driver preference...... Do you want/need an AWD drive for winter weather? If not, do you like driving manual better (like most of us)?

I live where it snows, so i need AWD. Else i would have got a 6MT in a heartbeat.

It's my first time learning about the G, my past vehicles were Toyota/Lexus.

I live in NJ and AWD is the first thing that come to mine since the ATTESA E-TS 7AT runs 100% RWD and split the power to the front only when the wheels are slipping (if i'm wrong, please correct me), so it fits my need for snow/rain.
I also heard that the 7AT in 09-11 has problems in "D".
For the 08, there are problems with the interior, clutch, and I would probably need to get a set of snow tires during winter months. The S package is very attractive though.
I would use the car for daily driving, commute to work, and I hope to keep the car in the long run therefore I hope I won't have a car with problems like the Lexus IS250 (DI engine carbon buildup on the intake valves issues).

thank you

I'm from the NE and a good set of snow tires on RWD will be fine. It doesn't snow enough to really worry, but AWD is nice to have. You still need snow tires though. AWD doesn't mean traction without them.

You had problems with a Lexus, lol. They are still rated very high and DI issues will be on every car. Nature of the design. This car doesn't have DI so there won't be that issue, but it's also why we don't have better MPG and power. I'm sure the next engine will have it.

The "Issues" with AT are simply it's AT. It sucks and always tries to be in 7th so when you want it to downshift it's not where you want it to be. It's not really an issue.

6MT is great, but if you don't know who had that clutch before it could be abused. The clutch is a little bit strange and people who don't really know how to drive ruin them quick. Been an issue since 2003...and the 350Z.

yes, the 100% RWD bias on the AWD means it's not "as good" as say a Subie or Quattro in the snow (i had a Subie, no comparison for snow driving).... but for me it's good enough. With winter tires and 6 inches of snow it does just fine. I use my X5 when I want to go to the pass for skiing

Do you know the costs if it needs to replace the clutch on 6MT ? The S package does kinda stand out than other models.

I compared with the 09 G37x 7AT with 08 G37s 5AT or 6MT. So far, I'm reading problems from other ppl about the how the 7AT lags and 6 MT clutch/clutch cylinder issues, but no problem from the 5AT. It's confusing and hard choice for me. If the 5AT is about the same (acceleration/maintenance/issues free) as the 6MT, then I may get the 5AT. Please share your opinion about which transmission that I should pick.

I have the 7at in both my Nissans and I don't don't have problems with either. People complain as it does have a lot of gears to go through when you kick the car down. There are ways around this and for me it has been a non issue. I have driven a lot of AT's and the 7at is actually better than most. Note that it is a matter of YOUR perferance, both tranny's have had problems.
