What is a fair CPO cost to dealer?

Hi All,

I'm getting ready to shop for a 2009 G37x CPO sedan. I have a good idea what I should be paying for the car and it's accessories. However, I'm not really sure how much the dealer needs to charge me for the cost of the CPO warranty.

For example, if i car has 40K miles and needs new brakes, tires, belts, etc, I'd expect that the CPO would cost the dealer more than a car with 15K miles (yes, I'll be test driving one of those) that does not need brakes, tires, belts, etc.

I'd like to offer the dealer $1200-$1500 (for the CPO) on a car with 15K miles.

Thoughts?

Ben

If it is not CPO'd there is generally a reason to it, too much money usually. 1200-1500 will generally not cover CPO. It is 895 just for the certification not inmcluding the work to be done to get it to CPO level. My suggestion would be one that is already a CPO vehicle

Thanks for you input. All the cars I'm looking at being sold with CPO built in to the sales price. It's good to know that the dealer spent $895 for the cert.

No problem, do remember the 895 is simply the certificate (warrant and financing) but there is much more money involved in getting it certified as far as reconditioning.

Makes sense.

So for example if it was a CPO 2009 with 500 miles (yeah right) the extra cost might be an oil change and car wash. But if it had 50,000 miles we'd be talking brakes, tires, belts, ding repair, etc, etc which would drive up the price. Right?

I don't suppose the dealer will tell me what fixes they had to perform to get the car in tip top shape.... :-)

Dealer should be more then happy to share with you the work they put into it, actually helps build value in the vehicle. Not necessary about the miles as some of it could have been done. Think about it this way what would cost more? A vehicle that has 30k on it and never had a service, tires changed, brakes done or a car with 70k that has had all maintenance done and had new tires because of naturally changing them. On avergae where I work we put about 1600-3000 into a CPO car, just depends on the condition you get the car in with.
