Insurance question
Insurance question
Hi all, I haven't had a car for years and I therefore don't have insurance at the moment. Most insurance companies say that they can't get me one before I have an insurance... What should I do? Could dealership get me on temporarily?
Thank you in advance!
Thank you in advance!
When I bought my old car in GA, the dealership gave me a temp insurance for a few days. I don't know if that is the law in GA or not.
When I bought my G37 in CA, I borrowed the dealership's computer to buy the insurance online & printed out the proof of insurance.
If you don't want to DIY, just call the local insurance agent -> give them all your info (car model, VIN, DL#,...) -> they will tell how much it costs -> pay using credit card over the phone -> they faxed the proof of insurance paper to the dealership.
Why don't you ask your dealership? They should know.

nope you should have to have insurance if you were leasing or financing.
if you buy it out right they could care less.
it's a liability thing.
plus it's the law... please don't be dumb enough to drive without insurance. you could be so screwed for something so trivial if something happened on the way home from the dealership.
the insurance companies can activate a policy on the spot and issue a temporary ID. and they can quote you on a car you technically don't own yet. but yeah most states won't let you drive the car off the lot without liability insurance.

Normally, what some customers do is try to tie their auto insurance to their home owners insurance. Granted the price is not always the best, but it is easier to get that way. If you don't have a Home Owners policy, my suggestion would be to contact a Geiko or Allstate or a national carrier and try to get coverage that way.
I don't know what dealership you are referring to, with your statement. We ensure that all our buyers regardless of how they are paying have insurance. They must have insurance in order to drive the car off of our lot. There is too many liability issues at hand.

what I'm saying is that it's a liability issue and if you buy the car out right and the buyer wants to drive it off the lot, I'm pretty sure you won't stop them.
but if it's under lease or financing, you are OBLIGATED under CONTRACT to furnish insurance.
and I disagree, car insurance under home owners insurance, the company is more than likely to give you a better deal... at least in California. I dunno about these other insurance companies but all the california based companies give pretty significant deals.
