HI Guys ..New Member here

I have been looking at getting a G37 since I test drove an Altima Coupe at a Nissan Dealership and found the miles were not consistent after the wreck other Carfax indicated..LOL. (Apparently the Nissan Dealership's buyer "had no idea")

So I saw another car that looked like an Altima Coupe but was an 07 G35. The price was about the same but it had a lot more miles so I passed and saw this beauty http://grandstrandnissan.vinmanagers...spx?ID=3989927 An 08 G37 Journey (white/Tan) with Premium and Nav with 12K.....I drove it and fell in lust. I especially like it because its not ostentatious. I am not into the whole "envy me" thing in this economy. It doesn't scream Prestige like BMW Lexus or MB. Its just a nice low key luxury car. No one knows where we are financially and I prefer it that way which is why my wife drives an Avalon rather than the Lexus. The Altima Maxima would be my preference over a G35x as well if I wanted a 4 door

I now knew the car I wanted but being a cash buyer 23K was a little put off by the $37K "internet special" Price tag. But it was my first introduction to Infiniti. I decided to do some research and left before they convinced me it was a great deal ( I found out later they are thousands high)

So I call Baker Infiniti (which is the closest dealer and 83 miles away). They told me they could sell me a similarly equipped 09 for 38K OTD (sales tax is capped for cars here at $300) and that I would have to drive 83 miles for ALL Warranty work.....Yikes.

So I take that Information back to local Nissan dealer and they are surprised but are not budging on their G37. I offer $33K cash and they claim thay have more into it. Now I know these cars are priced as of last week at $30400 in above avg condition and that one was a trade so they probabloy have less in it.....

So what do I do? I don't want a new one at $38K. I don't want to "rent" the car via Lease. I see all kinds of low mileage G37 Journeys at dealers in GA and NC advertised for $33-34K which means they will take less.....But I want the local one.....Should I wait until Christmas season kicks in after Nov 30 and the 2010s are weeks away? Im guessing they will take another hit when the 2010s are on the lots. They dropped $1300 in one week from the last week in Sept to the first week in October on Manheim. Fuel is going up......Perhaps the perfect Storm is developing for a great deal.

Or should I find and even rarer 08/09 Altima Coupe 3.5 which I would buy before the G35. THAT car is very hard to find. Must not have sold many. Now some would say (like my brother) just spend the extra few $K and get a new one.....If I had that mentality for the past 30 years I would not be able to pay cash today and would have had a perpetual car payment for the past 20 years. I like to buy AFTER the first guy pays off the most depreciation which is why we don't buy new.

I don't get why you would have to drive 83 miles to a dealership for all warranty work. You can go to any Infiniti dealership for warranty work.

hi, welcome to the board.

i think there is a (very) small possibility deals will get better for the coupe. already infiniti is allotting $5,000 in various incentives to sell the 09 coupes. granted, we are in a difficult economy so who knows, infiniti might go lower as the new year approaches.

that being said, inventory will dwindle and you will have less color/packages to choose from. also, if you buy a new car in 2009, you can deduct a certain percentage (your tax bracket) from the car sales tax. and don't forget the AMEX referral program, which places $650 in your pocket.

so buying a used car allows the initial owner to take the hit, but if you compare a slightly used 08 to a new 09 with all the incentives, i think you will find they compare favorably. but if you want to go more affordable, go with the altima (though if theyre hard to find then they wont be a great deal).

Both great responses..Thanks..
@Silver Bullet I live in Myrtle Beach...the closest Infinity Dealer is in Charleston!! LOL Nissan does not do Warranty work which is definitely giving me some pause regarding the Infiniti. On the other hand driving 84 miles in a G37 is not all that much to suffer

@Ironguard Sales tax is a non issue here in South Carolina. It is capped at $300 on any vehicle. I am looking at low mileage 08 G37s which I expect will become even more plentiful as time goes on. IF the 09 was a body redisgn or a major diffrence from the 08 I would pay up to it or wait a couple years. But the differences are not worth the $5k in price to me and the additional 2nd year depreciation. The 08s soon will have taken their biggest depreciation hit and with fuel going up and the premium requirement I would guess a less desirable car for a few more thrifty buyers who would otherwise entertain ownership.. The Infinity depreciates around $12k from MSRP trade in in its first year..I want to knock that down about half. That will have it's payback when I trade it or sell it in a few years..

Now If a new 09 Journey with Nav gets to $35K and I cannot save another $5k on an 08 I am all over it....

i dont see why you couldnt get one for $35k. last week, i bought my x coupe with nav for $36,611, and that was before Infiniti deducted an additional $500. i also got 3 free oil changes and state inspections for life included.

Maybe if there was more than one dealer witin 200 Miles...LOL

I think I will wiat till December. The combination of the year end at dealerships and the 2010s on the street in Jan, the 08s shouold be wehre the 07s are today or close. I would bet a low mileage 08 J with Premium and Nav will be less than $30. Right now the used 08s are only a single model year away and the 09s are plentiful.

But no I cannot even get an 08 here for less than $36.8!!!! LOL I would buy an 08 Altima Coupe 3.5 and save $14K before I would pay that much for an 08 Infinity.
