Custom Ordering a G37 Sedan 6MT
Go to dealer with both invoice and msrp in hand.( both on the internet) Offer 200 over invoice "after you have selected what you want." Remember they are a business and do have large expenses. But be prepared to walk out if you have to go higher then 500, they are getting piggy. You will probably not make it to your car. They need the sale not their competition. The hardest part people have is turning their backs and walking out. They will call.
Hell be ordering a 2010. If he offers something stupid.... they wont call belive me. What do they have to lose by waiting for someone to buy it off the lot for more when it comes in ? $200 profit on a 2010 wont make them jump to it I guarantee it.
Being a dealer, if someone came into my office and offered me $200 over invoice, meaning the dealer would only make $200, I would not run after them as they walk for the door. If you add into the equation the $2,500 cash back program, then yes, I would be able to sell $200 over invoice. Its a win win situation for both parties. But if you want the dealer to only make $200 on the car, that is a little ridiculous. Lets say you had invested 35,000 in a product and only had a $200 return? Would you do it... no. So why would a dealer?
To negotiate the price, get educated on the incentives going on. An educated customer is much easier to work with. Edmunds is a great tool. Also, make sure you have the correct information on hand.... have the packages, trim levels, accessories you want forgetting these can be the difference of a few hundred dollars.
Instead of ordering the car, I would try doing a dealer trade. Chances are the car you want, exists in circulation. What exactly are you ordering? I can take a look for you.
