I guess I assumed that if he were to return the car, he would be able to get the money back.

FYI - UPDATE:

They have contacted me via email and voicemail...Said that there was no need to involve my attorney or return the car...They have found a way "around" things and are going to stick to the agreed upon monthly payment...So I personally feel I have two options:

A. Bring the car back anyways (if thats even possible) and ask for a refund because of the shady business that went down and how they tried to give me a reach around...

B. Keep the car since it seems I wouldn't be qualifying for those rates anywheres else?

I'm confused and pissed that I even had to go through this...My biggest concern is for when my term is up...If they tried this stunt now...I can only imagine they have thought or will think up some type of way to get at me at the lease terms end...Thoughts?

LOL, they found a workaround! I'd suggest you keep the car, unless you can find a better deal, keep all your documents (e-mails too) incase they bill you in the end.

Maybe free oil changes for length of term request??

Sad that these things happen and some people might have bit the bullet and signed the new papers...Glad I walked...They knew I would feel pressured to accept the new deal since my private buyer was there waiting to take delivery of my old coupe...

Thanks, I'm coming in at 2pm Friday to Cerritos. Hopefully there won't be any problem.

On the purchase/lease contract for the state of Wisconsin, on the bottom part of the contract that everyone signs, there is a clause that says "Subject to final credit review/approval-APR & Financing terms are subjet to change based on final credit approval and score review." I'm not sure if the contract that you signed said something to that effect, but if it did, then there is not much that you can do.

Yes, the dealership can "work around it" by "buying" your interest rate down or your "buying" your credit score up. Its basically the dealership paying money to the lending institution that your loan/lease is going through to make sure that the deal happens. It all depends on how desperate the dealership is to make the deal happen.

I'm pretty sure you can report that dealership to someone.

But dealerships won't let you sign a contract and drive off with a car unless they were sure that the deal will go through. too much at risk. So that dealership was just trying to con you into renegotiating your deal.

It was like what some dealerships in southern california used to do... they would negotiate a FANTASTIC buy deal with the customer and then SCREW them over; upon signing the contract, the happy, unsuspecting customers never saw that the dealership had secretly written the contract from "Purchase" to "Lease", and the finance manager was quick to cover that part of the contract up.

So customers go home with their new car, paying their monthly payments, just get a letter at the "end" of their payments, requiring them to return the car or pay an additional "buy-out" price.

As long as you don't sign any other paperwork, keep the car. You got what you wanted at the price you agreed to. It would probably be a bigger hassle than what it's worth to try to get them to take it back.

The deal's not done

Now that they've "found a workaround" maybe you should remind them that you are a potential return customer (even if you won't be) and that you have friends who need new cars. And maybe they might want to make amends for all the trouble and confusion (i.e. their greed). And perhaps some free oil changes or coupons, etc. are in order.

I'd go straight to the manager or even owner. You have nothing to lose for tryng and they have everything to gain by keeping you happy. Heck, you might actually buy another car there afterall!
