Should I renegotiate a special order?
Should I renegotiate a special order?
In mid-November, I special ordered my Sport PG 6MT (fully loaded - Premium, Navigation, Technology, 4WAS, Spoiler, Illuminated Kick Plates, Splash Guards, Trunk Mat, Trunk Cargo Net). MSRP was $45,345. Invoice was $41,179. I negotiated my deal for $42,219, which was good at the time. I have been told that the car will be delivered on 3/21 and have been given my VIN. When I take delivery, should I try to renegotiate a better price since better deals can now be had?

I dont know alot about this... but seems to me if you have given them a deposit.... You have lost your "walk away power" ... kinda like they know your buying so why would they discount? I wouldnt lose your deposit over it though because if you do you will go some where else and end up with the same deal here due to your lost deposit... Just my .02cents...
The only other thing you can do is go to another dealership and leverage pricing on it that way. Obviously, you'd have to get better pricing than you already have on a similarly-equipped car.

You got a fine price. Everyone freaks out and thinks they should get a car below invoice. Dealers are not making a killing on individual unit sales, but on total number of units sold and the service department.
If you get a car within 1k - 1.5k of invoice you did a good job. On a great car with high demand you may pay MSRP.
Why sweat 1-3K over the life of the car if it is something you really want and enjoy.
I recently had to pay 1,200 for a dog!!! first time ever and I did it because my wife explaind that if you broke the cost down over 13+ years it amounted to very little daily and how much do we enjoy the dog??? Harder for me to understand when it's about a dog, but the logic applied to getting this car, and to the new Motocross bikes that I by every year, because it is what I love doing.
Don't get wrapped around the axle over a thousand bucks (aprox. 2%). It is a good deal on a vey hot car. Buy it, go for a road trip, and you will never look back.
My .10 to go with everyone's .02....now you have 12 cents worth

Perhaps,
she is worth a few time more than I am, and I am worth a few bucks.
I also got the car for about 1k over invoice, thought that was a good price, and love the car. I could care less what others are paying. The car is worth everything I paid, and then soome.
If people have to sweart a thousand or two, then they cannot afford the car yet, and should be look for something else, or save a little more.
It's not as hard as everyone seems to make it. Just insecurities about spending all that money and looking for validation so they have to brag about the deal they get. in truth 70+ % are not being completely honest so the source is not really to be trusted.
I think i'll sit in my heated seats, listen to a little comedy, pass a few people, and then get a bite to eat.
it ALL good

For some people, sweating over a thousand or two does indeed make a difference. It doesn't necessarily mean they cannot afford it. I know a guy who's quite well-off, but doesn't frivolously spend away his money either. It's called Fiscal Responsibility.
My best guess is that deposits are merely for "tagging" your order as yours so no one else can touch it, kind of like a "first dibs". In another thread, it was discussed that deposits can be refundable in the event of a customer changing their mind. And if the dealer doesn't honor it, litigation can occur.
I guess I should thank you though. It's people that go in and pay more then they have to that allow the rest of us to walk in and get one for invoice.
