Question Am I getting ripped off?

Hi everyone, newbie here.

I'm a Canadian looking to buy the G down near Buffalo (Williamsville), NY, and I think I'm getting ripped, as the price for the vehicle using their website comes out much lower. So this is directed to all of you who've bought one...

This is what I quoted for:
2008 G37 6MT
Premium Package
Navigation package
Splash guards
Cargo net
Illuminated kick plates

The price the dealer gave me:
$43,845.00-44,345.00
Price using website:
$42,245.00

Updated: I also got a quote for the same car but with the Technology package for $47,345 which doesn't add up at all since the extra option is only suppose to be $1,150.00.

So first of all, why did they give me a range in price? Second, where's the extra $1,600-2,100 coming from? Is there something I'm forgetting to include in the price...?

The person I'm dealing with did tell me they have to charge a premium "due to limited availability, loss of future service business and future allotment from the Manufacturer". Say wha-? That just sounds like they're making things up so they can charge me more because I'm a Canadian customer. What do you guys think? Have you guys ever heard of this before? (I realize the "loss of future service business" doesn't apply to most of you, but the other two reasons... what do they have to do with anything?)

Oh, and I'm also being charged an extra $150 to add daytime running lights (which I need in Canada) and $57.50 for the title fee. Do those prices sound about right to you guys?

And one more thing: do you guys ever pay below MSRP and do they ever give you freebies (e.g. accessories?). Just trying to get a sense of what I can bargain with and how far I can go.

Many thanks in advance!

Hi iko.

Can you give some details? What kind of prices should I be expecting? I was just reading some of the other threads and I'm seeing $1,000-2,500 below MSRP. Is that really common?

Inf Fairfield: Really? What's your price; I'll buy it from you!

I wonder how much shipping is...

If a swap can be worked out with that same dealer via Inf Fairfield, I wonder if you can just go pick it up to save the shipping cost?

That would be awesome. But that's wishful thinking, no?

Ya true, that dealer prob wouldn't do the swap unless they couldn't move it.
EDIT: If Inf Fairfield can locate another dealer near the border, shipping should be much lower and even better, it may be possible for you to see the car in person and even drive it back. Seeing the car in person is always a good thing before buying.

Yeah, it's possible to get a deal on a G37. Have you tried other dealerships? It's clear this one isn't concerned with getting your sale, they want to hook you on their overpriced service as well.

Try googling for "rizzo method" and use it with all the nearby dealerships. In my mind it's worth doing the travel to a distant dealership that you can drive home from if you're going to save a couple grand.

You're exactly right. A lot of us Canucks are going to them cuz they're close to the border, so I don't think they are worried about any Gs sitting on their lot.

But if I get it from Inf Fairfield way under MSRP then maybe even with shipping cost I could still be saving. Looking into shipping costs now...
