No point going to get it until they are approved by RIV. Then I belive the papaerwork must be at the border 3 days before you appear, that is what i was told anyway.

It'll be on this week, I just called them again to confirm. There is a woman there that's kind of useless, so that might be who you talked to.

True, they have to be on the list before they can be imported, but I called them again, and when I gave them the name of the person who called me, he confirmed that it had been approved.

As far as the paperwork being at the border three days before you appear, that is a US border requirement, and completely separate from the RIV program. The US requires 72 hours for vehicles leaving the country. The RIV is an agency contracted by Transport Canada to administer the vehicle importation programs for those coming through the US.

I don't expect you to take my word for it, but definitely keep checking the list this week, as it has been approved, and the list just needs to be updated.

Skankarella, I am going to reply to you in this post as the other one (Supply/Demand) was starting to go off-topic with the importation discussion:

Vancouverite here as well. I'll be following your progress carefully (please keep us posted). Will he wire in the fog-lights via the ignition switch? I have read that is the best way to do it. After you forge the path, maybe you can post instructions for the DRL. Or PM us his name. Still going down to Arizona on Friday?

Ok, so I read through the guide and even though it is not very difficult to import a car, it seems very time consuming.

Is there a reputable importing company that specialize only in importing cars into Canada from the US new and used? I may not want to buy a car from a dealership but from an individual (not necessarely a G37 )

On a side note, some manufacturers may cut their 2008 prices as soon as next month, Porsche in particular.

I sure hope Infiniti will follow suit but the problem is the 2008 prices are already out, I don't think they will do a 360 and reprice. May have to wait till the 2009 model year.

I called www.riv.ca yesterday, and they told me look at the site within 2 weeks, and by then the 2008 G37 may, and I repeat may be listed to import.

I heard some Canadian dealers already import from U.S. and resell higher price in Canada. From the numbers I've seen so far, Canadian buyers can save $7000-$14,000 if they buy the G37 in the U.S. directly.

Looks like the word is out to the general public:

rrrevin has the right idea:
https://www.myg37.com/forums/buying-and-leasing/174469-canadian-group-purchase-from-the-us-buyers-and-dealers.html

My guess is that some Canadian dealers may want to jump in and provide the import service to Canadian buyers at fair markup for this convenience service. If not, an American dealer probably will. In a group buy, it would help both dealer and buyers, especially given the parity of the dollars. Maybe a dealer has already offered group buy at such great discounted savings, not sure if I saw that somewhere.

The Houston group buy seemed to have worked out:

https://www.myg37.com/forums/south/173813-g37-coupe-group-buy-in-houston.html

There were various threads showing interested Canadian buyers. With the prices of many car manufacturers potentially coming down, it's possible to see that number rise.

I'm currently driving back my G37 - 6MT, prem/tech/nav AG/Stone. Awesomeness. I'm bringing it over the border on Tuesday. Same dealer in AZ has 3 or 4 other Cdns coming in on Monday to pick up theirs.

Meh, Canadian border took forever. Anyway, at home now, have to wait until I get the form 2 or whatever from the RIV until I can get my Federal Inspection and have the permanent plates put on it.

I got pulled over 3 times in CA for speeding, and didn't get a ticket once. The police in CA are super nice.

I vaguely recall somewhere in the RFD threads saying that you do not need to wait for the RIV to send you ur Form2 .. I think after a number of hours or something, you can call them up directly have that expedited (ie they'll fax or email you the form 2).

Well, I tried calling them to have that done, but they said that my recall clearance letter that I was told to fax them was rejected.

me: "It was rejected? Why?"
RIV: "It doesn't say why. It needs to be on dealer letterhead with the dealer stamp and VIN."
me: (looking at my recall clearance letter on dealer letterhead with dealer stamp and VIN): "Could you take a look and tell me which of those it's missing?"
RIV: "Oh, we don't keep them on file, it just says that it was rejected. It was probably missing the letterhead, stamp or VIN"

For all I know, it didn't fax through clearly (they saw the original at the border, and told me to fax it into the RIV), but since they don't keep the fax, or make notes as to why... argh. I used to do a fair amount of importing for work, so I'm used to dealing with Cdn gov't agencies (which were always the headache, no other country seems to have such poorly trained employees), but no one seems to know what's going on there. Do they not get any training whatsoever?

Anyway, she said to fax it to her attention this time. I was going to take a pencil and circle the relevant portions and label them in large block caps, "DEALER STAMP", "VIN", and "LETTERHEAD", with a legend for some extra redundancy, but thought better of it.
