OP hasn't been on the forum since he make this intro.Shame, too, because it was a good story.

Oh well. Best intentions, I'm sure. Life happens.

I remember test driving a 2002 or so Maxima. It had the 3.5 with a six-speed manual. Damn it handled so well. I drove it close to the level of stealing it. I'm surprised that the salesman didn't complain. I remember saying something negative to him and he goes to me says well you did take that turn it over 40. It was a turn that you should be taking about 15.

The new Maxima handles even better and has more power, but it only comes with a CVT.

would have loved to keep the G37 2009, but things were starting to go wrong with it at 131k miles, expensive things and hard to replace things.
I looked at a beautiful new Q60, and drove a used one. I liked the way my G37 handled better. Long story short, I decided to get out of the luxury car market and went with a new Honda Accord EX-L. So far, I like it though it is night and day compared to the G37. The Tesla is on order

I understand your predicament
I have had 2 x Maxima, 2 x Altima V6 and my wife has had 2 x Infiniti, a G35 Coupe and a G37X Coupe. Lots of Nissan V6 in the paddock.

My last Altima was T-boned and totaled 3 years ago, and I was running out of time to replace it, so I got a 2012 Acura TL. I had two Acura Vigor before and they were good cars. What a mistake the TL was. Engine stutter that was never fixed, a transmission so sluggish you would be forgiven to think the shifts were sent via email. The car was fast off the line, but anytime you wanted to accelerate while the engine was < 3,000 RPM, you better not be in a hurry. You could drive in Sports mode, but the Infiniti is still more responsive without the annoyance of an engine that never drops below 3,000 RPM.

Anyhow, the Acura was traded for a new car for my wife and I am a happy camper driving the G37X Coupe every day.
What a fun and underrated the G37X Coupe is. I had driven it quite a bit in the 6 years we have had it, but this being at the time my wife's car, I never even tried to have fun with it, at least not when she was in it....

In my opinion, the Nissan V6 in all its incarnations is not only a good sounding engine, but it is the best engine for throttle response, and the conventional auto transmission is quite fast. Very quick and linear. Simply nothing in that category comes even close. When replacing the last Altima, I drove a bunch of BMWs with anything with Turbo and no Turbo and none had the pedal feel of the Nissan V6. Some were more powerful, but who cares about lots of power that comes 2-3 seconds after you need it?

How is everything going, Carl? This thread came up as a related thread to something else that I was reading.

Glad to see you're still popping into the forums

Wow that was a long read. When I was in a Senior in high school driving anything with 4 wheels was better than riding a big cheese. Nothing wrong with driving a van to school.

Your G is beauty. I wish you well and hope you will continue to enjoy your G

After 6 years I think it’s time to update.

where this story left off, in August 2019 I got to move to California. So I packed everything I owned in my G ad made the 32 hour drive like it was nothing

made it to California 3 days later.

unfortunate turn of events, but in October of 2019 I had an accident that messed up my new eye. My cornea fell out and I had lost vision in one eye.

While I didn’t think it was that big of a deal… (I drove myself to the ER, put a couple hours on the meter and checked myself in) The receptionist sees my cornea hanging out and I am immediately the priority in the building. They get me in an ambulance to another hospital and fly a doctor in from Utah to operate on me that night.

long story short - that doctor made things worse and I flew back to Indiana to be treated by my original doctor.

They stitched me back up but I had some new rules. One of which was no flying for 3 months. With my car back in California, and being stuck in Indiana for the winter I did what any genius would do.

i bought a riced miata

to this day I still miss this car. 1.8L R package miata with hardtop. Paid $1700 for it! Guy was going to basic training and wanted it gone. So, I got this in December of 2019.

unfortunately it was very short lived. In February An SUV tapped me in the rain one night and sent me spinning across the median and into a ditch.

so now I have no car. No biggie. I’m still healing from the eye surgery so I took it easy until Spring Break.

Spring Break meant 1 thing - it’s time to party and 2, I’m eligible to fly again! Time to go get my G37 and drive it back to Indiana. I decided to move back to Indiana since I had to be monitored closely for my recovery.

The first thing I did was give it a much needed wash.

Now, this is my only car, and I’m about to drive it another 32 hours back to Indiana. So it only made sense to fly out an Infiniti Master Tech to do some maintenance on the car before making the trek, right?

Remember the awesome mechanic on the east coast that did my clutch for me when I first got the car? Well, we stayed in touch. He really found my video to sell my old Infiniti hilarious (
) and said if I ever needed anything to simply ask.

I was ecstatic he decided to do the house call.

I can’t remember what all we did, but it was ALOT. Took about a week before it was road ready (almost)

the last thing the car needed was a water pump. I plan on getting on the road within the next couple days, and my girlfriend at the time flew in to ride back with me. All was great!

Well, until it wasn’t. It is now the 2nd week of March. 2020… and I’m in California. This was the peak of the first COVID freak out. The mechanics flights kept getting canceled, and California was talking about losing their borders. So we had to act fast.

The mechanic ends up grabbing a rental car to drive back to NJ.

I decide to make the drive to Indiana before the state closes its borders, with a leaky water pump. 3 days on the road and a few containers of antifreeze later, and we made it back to Indiana! I immediately had the water pump and gallery gaskets changed.

Now the summer of 2020, and I’m getting loads of work for video since everyone is going virtual. I was traveling approx 1000 miles per week. And in that time, I desired more from the car.

Before I could drive, car culture I was introduced to was the stance scene, and I thought it was AWESOME. So, I bought some coilovers, suspension arms, and 2 sets of GTR wheels to make a full set of rears, and I was on my way.

scored one of the last 07-09 lips from the dealership paint matched.

I regret to inform you all,it gets worse than this. Much worse. But stay with me. I’ve got a stance car now, so 12 year old me is happy.

I drove like this for about two years. Going through a pair of rear tires every month, and flipping them every 2 weeks. Truthfully I wish I had all of that time and money back, but hey what can you do.

a friend of mine started wrapping cars and offered to use my car in exchange for some marketing content.
The color had to be attention grabbing though..

honestly at the time, I love it. So much so that I did it twice. We’ll get back to that.

February 2022, I’m pulling out of my garage and some idiot in speeding and clips me

Car was totaled, and my garage was heavily damaged. This was approx 4 days after the car just had a new clutch and CMAK put in. After dealing with insurance, and my apartment complex, I was drained. So I took a little hiatus.

I worked from home. My complex had a gym, meeting rooms, and dog park. Plus, within 500ft I had the pet store, my bank, and the grocery store all within walking distance.

a couple weeks go by and I happen to check CarGurus. A manual 2010 G37 sedan pops up but has no pictures. I call the dealership and ask if they can send me a picture of the interior. (I wanted to make sure it was a manual). She says they just got it in that day or the night before. They haven’t even detailed it yet, but agreed.

The saleswoman texts me within 10 minutes and lord behold. ITS A MANUAL SEDAN! Black on black. Only 10 hours away, no big deal. The dealership it was at was conveniently next to an enterprise where I could drop off my rental from insurance. Everything fell into place. But first, I had to ask for my dads wisdom.

Time to go pick it up…

March 2022
10 hours turned into 14 with the winter advisory going on, but I made it to Georgia and picked up my 2nd 6MT Sedan for $8k OTD! I was happy to have a facelifted sport bumper and the white and blue gauges. No NAV or rear spoiler though, but both could be added later.

About a week before I went down to pick this car up, I had accepted a job offer and would be moving two hours north.
The first year of the job kept me busy so the car stayed stock. I was collecting parts for when I was ready though! After a year, I gathered some pretty awesome stuff.

what was fun with this build was, if I saw something I wanted, I’d drive for it. More so for the experience. I put tens of thousands of miles on this car just collecting parts for it. Saw some cool things and met some even cooler people. And the car never let me down. Not once. I’m talking leaving the office on Friday in Indiana and heading straight to NYC for parts. Took the car to Chicago, Atlanta, Weat Virginia, Detroit, Nashville, Atlanta, and New York idek how many times.

some honorable mentions : Monaco Red interior, Stance coilovers with PlatinumVIP aircup kit, Top Secret Badges, SPL arms, Successful Automotive Carbon Fiber pieces, OEM Lips etc.

Everyrhing was purchased used, but a lot were still boxed up. So, I spend a fraction of what it would’ve cost to build this car with new parts.

Unfortunately majority of this stuff never got installed. Work kept me busy and with it being my only car I couldn’t really afford to have it down for a couple weeks to get everything on.

however, this is how it looked at its “peak” (it looked better stock, I know)

March 2023-March 2024 it looked like this

Then…

I hit a deer in March 2024, then got hit by an idiot in May 2024. Fortunately my friends own a body shop and put the car back together for me best we could.

I imagined it would take awhile for insurance to cooperate. So, when in doubt - buy a Miata!

this car RULED. Cold ac, 1.8, 5 speed, hardtop. Chefs kiss.

sadly, once the g37 was back together- with this many total losses, my insurance was astronomical. So the Miata had to go in September 2024

After driving it for 4 months like this I started to hate it. I had motordyne long tube headers with their catback exhaust and it sounded great, but was pretty loud and obnoxious. The car just didn’t look good after being totaled twice (who knew?) then, my 5th and 6th synchros went out. So I drove around town for months with just gears 1-4 and reverse. Wasn’t that bad..

I did have a brand new transmission from Nissan I bought the year prior while accumulating parts, but I was over putting money into the car and am holding onto that trans for a friend.

my final straw was a random misfire the car had while I was driving to work one day. With work and life getting more serious, I didn’t really have the desire to keep tinkering the car.

Plus, it was starting to look like an eyesore parked outside the office (it always was an eyesore - Im just now noticing)

So I decided I wanted to grow up and get rid of the rice rocket. A guy drove through the night from NJ to pick it up before I headed to West Virginia.
