True coilovers in the rear or divorced coilovers?
True coilovers in the rear or divorced coilovers?
I'm doing some research for coilovers for a G37X sedan. Most of the aftermarket coilovers use a divorced setup in the rear with the spring and an adjustable perch with the damper separate like the stock setup. Some brands offer a true coilover in the rear which allows you to replace the lower control arm to one without a spring bucket to reduce some unsprung weight.
Is there a real benefit to either way over the other?
I'm considering either Feal or Fortune auto coilovers in the $1,500 range at the moment.
Love to hear feedback.
thanks

A lot of people say that the true setup should be fine. Like...they say the shock towers can handle the spring AND the shock....but..idk if they can. I think you may stand a chance of breaking a shock tower *maybe*.
I know the true coilover is easier to adjust also.
But...if it were me, I'd keep the spring where its supposed to be (divorced setup). Unless I had a *really* good reason for wanting to take a chance of ruining my car by breaking a shock tower.
I know some race teams convert 370Z's to true coilover. But...I don't think that's a comparable situation and I honestly can't see the advantage for a street car.

Hi ,
I have had my G37xS coupe for almost 2 years and I would like to upgrade my suspension since it is too soft and behave badly during the cornering. This is the same suspension as you have on your sedan. I noticed that you have made good research and earlier you considered BC Racing DS type coilovers but moved towards either Feal or Fortune auto coilovers.
Why did you change your mind?
What difference have you noticed after you set up Hotchkis sway bars?
I don't have enough money right now to buy both coilovers and sway bars but I would like to eliminate this softness and landing on corners.
What upgrade will give me more gain?
Thank you!

The BC Racing coilovers drop the car a minimum of 2 inches I believe. I drive my car year round and have to deal with snow so I don't want to go too low in the winter time. I'm still researching which coilovers will allow me to drop an inch without having to go too low.
