Is this normal?

Hey guys I was replacing my rotors and pads today and I found this on my brake caliper.
is this normal or should I replace the caliper?

Is it dried dirt? Is the larger piece rusted piston?

It’s a rusty dirt piece, should I worry and get new piston or is this pistons okay to put back?

If its dirt its fine. Clean the dirt off the rubber before pushing the pistons back in.

Before cleaning, check the piston material. If it is Phenolic, take care not to damage.
also, I would say is to check piston boot and replace if necessary.

Besides that, looks normal for a fairly used caliper.

PS: this rusty piece looks like a piece of pad shim, can you please take some pics of that?
does not look like a thermal ring (used on Nascar cars)

when replacing, would tell to use galvanized protected pad backplates/shims to prevent rust issues.

Looks like the remnants of an old pad shim. Pistons are hollow, normally. Could also be caked/molded on grease from the old pad. Nothing to worry about. Just clean it out with a cloth or a soft brush and you should be fine as long as the piston doesn't stick.
