Tire sizing.. questions

Ive seen many people running running different sizing with sidewalls.... Such as 35R in the front and 40R in the rears.... Why is that? Are there any benefits to it?

Thank you

35 and 40 are percentages of the width of the tire. As the first number in tire size (width in mm) goes higher you have to start lowering the second number or else the tire will get taller.

For instance, the stock size tires on my Lancer are 215/45/18. I installed 245 width tires so now the tire is a 245/40/18. If I had installed 245/45/18 the tires would have been an inch taller.

Eveything you wanted to know about tire sizing (but were afraid to ask).

Apologies to Dr. David Reuben for riffing on his book title.
