Hello folks,

Does anyone here have the Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ all-season tires on your G37x Sedan? If you do, how do you like the ride,wet and snow grip quality of the tires? Thanks guys!

 

Those were the cheap replacement tires the dealer slapped on my car before i bought it. I had them on for about 30K before they wore out. They weren't bad enough to replace before they wore out, but generally unremarkable in all regards. If you're looking for a more budget friendly performance tire, consider the BFG G-force Comp 2 or General M-Max AS-05. The BFG is louder and has a firmer ride but a little more responsive, the General has a nicer ride but is a little softer.

 

Thanks for the response! So you're saying the wet and snow grip its not good? Also, what did you replaced them with?

 

It was acceptable, but didn't excel at anything. I replaced them with the General G-Max AS-05. When they first came out there were a lot of rebates and specials and i managed to snag a set of 4 for $300. Compared to the Uniroyal, the ride is much better and less noisy. The sidewalls are a bit softer but the tire seems to grip better regardless. I run the generals at 38psi, which sharpens the response a good bit but has a negligible impact on ride quality. The tread compound on the Generals is way better in wet conditions.

I assume you're on the OEM 17s w/ 225/55/17 size. Victory has good advice (as always )
The BFGs are almost always getting much higher ratings then their price point would suggest. I would look at them first if overall performance is a priority, if you don't mind spending a bit more the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 gets top tier ratings, IMO either of those tires will be superior to most any other, and a HUGE upgrade over the horrific Goodyear RS-As that were OEM for most 17" G applications.

 

I think the General AS-05 feels a lot like the DWS-06 (my father has the latter on his benz) Much like the continental, it gives up a tiny bit of dry performance at the extremes for ride comfort. Really good in the wet and I have high hopes for snow performance. Makes sense as continental owns them.

overally I'd say the BFG is the best driver's tire, whereas the others are probably better for everyday use, especially in places where the road looks like the cratered surface of the moon 8 months out of the year.

 

Toyo proxes 4 are nice upgrade

 

Damn 300 for AS-05s, I would buy that for a dollar. The BF Goodrich Comp TA A/S are around 140 a tire, should be pretty decent in the snow.

 

They had just come out, so Tire Rack was discounting them and the manufacturer had a $75 rebate on top of that. Made it well worth taking a chance on an unreviewed tire
