So I purchased and installed fortune auto 500 coilovers for my 2011 g37x coupe a couple months ago and I am getting this clunking in the right rear. I have researched around, but couldn't find any solutions. Has anyone had this issue and found a solution? I contacted fortune auto but all I got as a response was that it could be anything on my car (thanks...). Anyways, I have done the preload on the spring, everything is tight, I have gone through it more times that I can count trying to adjust this and that to figure out the culprit.

 

When does the clunking noise happen? Is it all the time? Over bumps? over dips? Typically a clunking noise would either be a loose spring/bolt/nut, a blown strut, or endlinks. How much did you lower your car when you installed the coilovers?

 

If you're lowered enough, your sway bar can hit your camber arms. If you have aftermarket cambers arms they are going to be thicker than OEM making it even closer.

 

It only happens over bumps. If the road is bumpy/has potholes, it will make the noise. My rears are at about 26 and 1/16 inches from floor to fender.

But thanks for the input so far, I'll definitely check my camber arm to see if that's the culprit. As for everything else, I tightened everything yesterday and the clunking is still present so it wasn't that. And I can't believe that the shocks would blow that quickly, could they?

 

If its a clunking noise over bumps then something is hitting, or loose. If its a thumping noise it would be the strut. And sometimes you never know, all manufacturing companies have defects from time to time. I've had clunking issues with my fronts before on my Chevy, turned out to be loose end links.

 

Its definitely a clunking noise, almost like a knock type sound. I've been under my car on ramps recently and I don't think the sway bars are hitting the camber arms. I'll have to double check tomorrow. I'm definitely not slammed.

 

Whether or not you're "slammed" is purely suggestive. There's no accurate measurement to judge the basis on, and everyone will say something different. You just might be "too low" without knowing, since to you its perfectly fine.

 

I get what you're saying. I just tried to find a height that I deemed looked good without sacrificing drivability. I don't scrape on anything unless it's a crazy angle. Regardless, I checked under the car and my sway bar and camber arms are definitely not touching or touch from suspension travel. I'm going to put my car on jack stands this weekend so I will check everything. Any ideas on specific bolts/bushings/areas that I should pay extra attention to/prone to noise?

 

Pay attention to the endlinks that connect the sway bar to the control arm.

 

So nothing looks like it's hitting. Just looked under the car while having someone else push down on the trunk a bunch of times. I took a video, and you can kind of hear the clunking I'm talking about.

I was getting squeaking on bumps and knocking sound when turning.
It went away last week when i pre-loaded my upper control arms and tighten body to arm screws.

I have Fortune Auto 500 coilovers and I get that exact same clunk in the rears. I have tried everything I can think of. Did you ever resolve this or figure out what it was? If you did, what was it. I either need to figure this out or get rid of them, I can't stand it anymore.
