Will 285s work on OEM 9' Wheels?

I am currently running 255-35-19 on the rear. I am having some traction issues and want to go to a bigger tire. The tire shop recommends no larger that 275's. I would go with 275-30-19 (-4.6% speedo error) but I was thinking of going to the 285-30-19s which are 11.22" wide and give me slightly less speedo error (-3.7%)

Anyone out there running 285s on OEM 9" wheels?

That mount will be too pinched resulting in rolling of the sidewall under hard cornering. I'd run 275/35/19s, this will only be -0.52% different than the OEM 245/40/19s that are on the back OEM.

Thanks! I was wondering is 285 would be pushing the limit. I am not that concerned about a slight speedo error so would prefer the 30 series rather than the 35. The advantage to this is that it also effectively changes my rear end ratio slightly and gives me a more responsive feel at low rpm. The centrifugal SC is pretty sluggish below 3K rpm. It is a trade off but I don't need the high top speed.

I did it once, seemed fine to me, nice flush sidewalls. I went from 255 Pilot super sports to 285 PS2's, so I can say that Michelin's 285's will fit well

Ok good to know. I am running the Pilot SS. Love the tire but Michelin messed up their production and there are none available this summer

So the sidewall was flush... Not bulged on the 285? What ratio... Did you go with the 30 or 35?

Not the best fit. Many use 275/35's with almost same look and lot better fit to the wheel.

Thanks Neal... so what is the story with Michelin and no supply on the PSS? This is such a great tire. Noticed that you were from TireRack and thought that you might know. Up here they are saying there is no supply for 3 months.

All we know is that many of their tires, as well as BFG's, are on national backorder until further notice. I've inquired many times for other customers but haven't gotten anywhere.
