Help Rubberband like feeling when hard braking
Rubberband like feeling when hard braking
Hey All,
I'm new to the forums here, but thought I'd post a question since this issue has been bugging me for awhile.
For reference I own a 2011 Infiniti G37 Sedan (20k miles) / automatic.. owned since July 2011 ~ California (no modifications to car).
Whenever I need to stop suddenly or need to hard brake.. in the event of somebody pulling out in front of me or not making it across the light in time.. when I press hard on the brakes the car does this rubberband like feeling .. it almost feels like the car pushes forward than pushes backward very slightly .. The process also outputs this noise .. sounds like shifting of sorts.. its hard to describe.. I'll have to see if I can get a audio recording of it sometime next week.
The car brakes perfectly fine, but its just this sound that keeps occurring whenever I press hard has always bothered me.. if something is wrong. I guess I was curious if anybody experiences this sort of problem?
When I brought the car in for service yesterday morning.. again I brought up the same issue, and they assured me nothing is wrong (brakes are in good condition).
Thanks,
Ryan

You should feel a pulsation of sorts in the pedal when abs kicks in. What tires are on the car? On the S with stock tires (bridgestone re050a), I'd have to brake extremely hard (panic stop) to get abs to kick in. Come to think of it, I can't remember the last time this happened.
In the winter in snow (with snow tires), it's much easier to to trip the abs.
Maybe change your driving style so aggressive braking is not needed as often.

Also that that loud shifting noise is just that, the AT will automatically downshift (and rather abruptly) if you do a panic stop, just another measure it takes to get the vehicle stopped as quickly and safely as possible.
The first time you experience this it will feel like something is wrong since it can be harsh, and until now, unexpected.
