Brake rotors strange wear question
Need some advice. Over the weekend I changed out my rotors and brake pads non-sport brakes. Rotors were Centric and pads were Hawk Ceramics. When changing the pads and rotors out I compared them sizes to the OEM pads because they seemed very small but the measurements and dimensions all looked exactly the same for rotors and pads.
Installed and bedded.
This morning looking closer I can start to see the pad / rotor wear and noticed that the bite of the pad is not extending the entire rotor. It almost looks like the rotor contact surface is smaller in diameter, if that makes sense. I know it isnt because I compared with the OEM rotor it was the same in size.
I attached some picts of the rear. I drew a red line to show where there is no rotor wear. Also on another pict you can see the pads do not extend the entire rotor. Is this normal? Did I screw something up? I have never seen this before as I always used OEM brakes and have always only changed the pads never changed rotors out on my own.

I don't think you did anything wrong. Did you change your brake fluid by chance?
When I swapped my stock sport rotors for Racing Brake two piece rotors, I had a similar wear pattern. I thought I had done something wrong but I knew I made sure that all the parts were installed correctly and I just kept an eye on it. Oddly enough, my right rear rotor was the last one to have it's cross-hatching pattern wear off. I had the brake fluid flushed and bled just to make sure there wasn't a lack of pressure in the right rear. After a few hundred miles, it sorted out and now has a perfectly even wear pattern.

Looks fine to me, here's mine that I just installed & bedded last weekend, you'll notice the pad stops right at the end of the slots, so a bit over an inch from the inside pad wear area to the hat and about 1.25" of pad contact area.

twin_snails, it started raining when I finished so I did not bleed the brakes. I may do it this weekend. Did you feel a more sensitive brake pedal or stronger bite after bleeding the brake fluid?

I could of sworn this is not the behavior on the sport brakes. Pretty sure most of the rotor diameter is used. Did the stock ones have a similar wear pattern? Wonder why they would not use the entire surface area on the standard brakes?
