Take the car to the tire shop and ask for the tires to be balanced. OK $8.00 a tire. I tell them to rotate them front to rear when they put them back on. THAT WILL BE $40.00!

Do they have to dismount and remount the tires on different wheels because of the tires being directional?

I think OP is trying to say that the place told him 8 bucks a tire which equals 32 dollars and then the guy charged him 40.

Anyway , what did you tell the guy after he was charging you 40?, I wouldn't have gave it to him , I would have just handed him the 32 dollars you were originally being charged for.

 

Just reread it and caught that part that I missed the first time. Guess they charge an extra $8 to put them back on different axles.

OP Where do you get your tires from that the don't offer free lifetime balancing and rotation in the price you pay when you buy the tires?

 

Yes! They are the original tires the car came with. It was actually comped with the manager saying that no one had ever questioned why it was extra to put them back on a different axle.

 

So I guess the answer to why the extra $8 is becasue they can. Except today.

 

Must have rotated the spare too. Classic mix up. lol.
