Need help with Pads and rotors
Hey guys, this is my first post here and I wanted to say Hi to all. My name is Tazbir, I am from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Just a little background, I am an avid G37 lover and I just bought my first Infiniti. Its a black 2009 G37S coupe.
Theres a few minor issues I need to deal with though. I need a pair of good brake pads and rotors. I dont know which brand to go with. I spoke to a few tuning/jdm shops one in particular is NEXTMOD (Nextmod) here in Toronto and they quoted me $110 for front pads, $100 for rear pads (Hawk Performance) and $300 for 4 rotors from Magnum Rotors. I have no idea about this car and what kind of pads and rotors I should put on it (I just upgraded from a 2001 Civic FML)
So what I am looking for is an average pair of rotors and brake pads. Nothing too pricey like stoptech or brembos and nothing too cheap either. Any input will be well appreciated.
P.S I also attached a few pics of the car from a Dealer. I will take more pics when the car is delivered.

Welcome to the forums! I just purchased two sets of Akebono ProACT pads for my 2010 G37x Coupe. I'll be installing tomorrow if all goes well. For me, it came down to a choice between Akebono or Hawk pads and I chose to try out the Akebonos. They're known to be very quiet pads, shed almost no dust, and have good stopping power, which is what I am looking for. I chose to get mine from Tire Rack since they're a forum sponsor, easy to work with, reasonably priced, and I've done business with them before and had a good experience. That said, there are plenty of other places around to look for pads / rotors. Check out the Vendors section of the forum for more info on that. Hope that helps and good luck!
Welcome and congrats on the car.
Get yourself a set of OEM rotors online from one if the many Nissan parts suppliers (remember, same rotors as the 370z sport package). Unless you want blingy cross drilling you don't need anything pricier than stock.
Pads are where you can spend more for the performance you want. Are you looking for same performance as stock? Or more friction and/or fade resistance at the expense of a bit of noise every now and then?
Also, get some permatex ceramic brake lube if you are doing the job yourself. The lube applies only to the sliding contact edges of the pad backing plate... NOT the pad face itself.
Good luck

I didn't even know that Magnum MAKES rotors for the big brake kit on your G37s. Sorry, but I think NEXTMOD got it wrong (they do that sometimes). I called around some Infiniti dealers in Toronto and ran my VIN. The service techs told me that for some reason parts lists got screwed up on some early gen Gs (like mine and yours), and they don't show as having big brakes, when in fact they do.
In any case, Magnum rotors are ****, and no where near as good in quality as other brands, so stay away. Maybe great on a civic, or my previous car, a Mazda6, but not on a G.

Hey thanks for the warm welcome and response guys.
So let me see if iv understood properly, Nissans 370Z uses the same rotors as my car (09 G37) so I can walk into a Nissan dealer buy them and wont have a problem with installation?
@AllentownG37..so what Rotors are you using with the Akebonos?
@LexiG37..so you sure ATE rotors from Crappy Tire is a good idea for this car?..let me know
@zokissima..So I should specify to whoever I buy from, I have big brake kits?

Don't buy the rotors from the dealership... You will get gouged.
And yes, if you have the akebono caliper setup then the z sport rotors are the same.
Search online and you will find rotors at a good price

Ah I finally was able to view the pics on the computer. Yes, you have the akebono setup so you want either the g37s or 370z sport rotors (same thing).
Example pricing from one of many OEM online parts retailers prices out the front rotors at $86/ea and rears at $77/ea. Far better deal than any of the cross-drilled and/or slotted rotors on the market. You just don't need those features for performance- just for bling really.
My philosophy is unless you are buying two-piece rotors, stick with OEM. Anything in between doesn't come with the requisite performance increase to justify the added cost (again, this is a choice based on goals).
As for pads, you didn't specify the kind of performance you value- low dust/no noise/100% of available friction at first use in cold weather .... or slightly more dust/possible noise under certain circumstances/much more max friction/slightly less cold bite until up to temp?
Let us know so we can steer you in the right direction.

Sometimes their prices are competitive.
I got 85k miles on my OEM pads on my 06G35 and had 87k miles on the replacement factory pads when I traded it in a little over a month ago with 171796 miles for my new 2012 G37S.
Telcoman
@telcoman Hey bud, I called my local dealer and they charged me $1875 for pads and rotors front and back. Too much. So anyways, I guess im going to get the Hawk performance pads but can you guys tell e what brand my pads should be? I know OEM is the best option but I dont know any reliable websites to order from and if you guys have any aftermarket brand preferences, let me know thanks
My rotors are still the OEM rotors that came with the car. They're not worn enough yet to warrant replacing them.
Also, I had a chance to get my pads installed this past Sunday, at least I got my rears done (long story short, I was sent the wrong fronts, so I'm working to remedy that.) I'm not particularly mechanically inclined, but had some help from a friend and it wasn't too hard to do, just a few small pitfalls here and there.
So far, I'm thrilled with the rears. My squeal-when-backing-up has disappeared. I'll post a more thorough review once I get the fronts on and I've put some mileage on the car.

Hey empire123, for that price you can get a complete set of Racing Brake slotted two piece rotors, pads and stainless steel brake lines which will take you to the next level in performance and looks. They have a group buy going on so you might just look them up at Racingbrake.com and search the group buy area. Good luck.
