Akebono vs Brembo brakes?

I'm looking to upgrade my brakes to either Akebono or Brembo. I've read a few reviews on this site but they were back in 2010, it's now
2012 so I figure more people have explored both routes and now I can get a quality answer.

So my question is Akebono or Brembo? Which do you prefer and why did you choose them?
Also any performance reviews would be great (brake quality, repair costs, etc.)

Thanks for any information provided!

what are you goal for breaking? i.e. is this for track use, or just to have a bbk?

Well, i hear Akebono are not that great but they get the job done. Akebonos is cheaper in every way. Brimbos have a better name.

BBK

no local tracks and I don't feel the need to go to the track without a TT or SC

Thanks, I'll probably just end up doing that then since brembos are about 2x the price.

Well this depends. Bremebo I believe are 4 pistons fronts and 6 rear. Well that's what I think I read on the site but yeah if you just want BBK get the Akebono that comes with the sport.

Just an FYI. You are going to have to trim down the heat shield for the non BBK.

^^Dashkid, that would be one very imbalanced brake system. IIRC, they are still 4pot/2pot, but made by brembo. Probably another corner infiniti could cut and still pull a good profit.

yeah, i decided on the akebono BBK and will order it in the next couple days.
Only $1,400 or so compared to $3,500 for brembos.
I see why most make that decision.

Hey Nnniicc,

Mind sharing your thoughts once you get the new brakes installed? I'm looking into something similar -- my OEM pads, and possibly rotors need to be replaced soon. I was considering upgrading.

Thanks!

Yeah no problem!

I'd advise going the Akebono route.
I've seen multiple people have them on their G.

I'm getting akebono brake kit with StopTech slotted & drilled rotors.

I'll send my thoughts once I have that completed.

Thanks man. I think I'll probably be going that way. Right now, my choices are between a StopTech kit or the Akebono kit if I need to do more than just pads. Keep me posted.

Hi any update on the bbk upgrade? I have a 2009 G37XS and looking to do this upgrade. Would love to hear if there a fitment issue, how they perform in wet/dry condition and how's much brake dust compare to oem. I spoke with dealership and they say I need spacer while online store where I gonna buy the kit from said it fits without issue. Tks
