Big Brake Question

I've got a question about big brake kits. Live up in blustery Canada, and unfortunately only get the big wheels on for half the year. Would like to upgrade the brakes to something beefier but afraid they won't fit under the 18" factory wheels on an '09 G37x Coupe. Any suggestions as to what will fit and what to go with?

thanks!

You may want to consider the factory akebono kit but I'm not sure if they fit under the non-sport wheels. That said, sport 18's shouldn't be that hard to come by given how many sedan guys upgrade their wheels.

But yeah, go akebono for the best bang for the buck since you can just get OEM parts.

Akebono will fit. If you want something different you can look into project mu. I didn't have the money for that one at the time, but i really love there BBK. If you have the money stoptech is really good but i think your going to need a bigger wheel. I don't think 18 will fit for that one. Look into project mu.

The Akebono is just fine just pair it up with stainless lines and you're set! Just get a nice set of SSR for summer and figure out the winter set up...

And get good pads to go with those ss lines and you will have a great braking system! The akebono setup is really good.

thanks guys! The local shop in Calgary is suggesting the Stoptech rotors and Hawk HPC pads. I'll suggest the Akebono and see what sort of pricing they can get.

What your shop is suggesting doesn't sound like a big brake kit, but a rotor and pad swap using the oem calipers. It will perform better than stock (well, maybe not with Hawk pads) but nowhere nearly as well as the aforementioned Akebono kit with quality HH rated pads.

That said, your shop's recommendation will cost less than the Akebono setup, by a significant margin. It all depends on your budget!

You can get the Akebono cheaper on Myg37. Nothing wrong w/ 2nd hand.

True, if someone is selling the akebonos that would be a great deal.

correct, they are just pricing stock sizes for rotors and pads for the stock calipers.

Price isn't as much of an issue as wanting good performance, as long as I can stuff them under my stock 18" x wheels, I'm down for any setup! I'd love to have a monster big brake kit for the 20" Vossens that are on it for the summer, but unfortunately I drive in the winter and need the winter tires/wheels.

I'm definitely open to Akebonos second hand though if someone on here is selling.
