Bandit Needs some advice on 19" Wheels (Help!)

Ok Guys, bought some stock OEM Wheels off a forum member this week from his 2008 Coupe with 23K miles on them. They look Good, but have some discioloration and a few issues. I am picky and my 17's are Mint!

I have a 2009 Black on Black Sedan just so you know.

I was thinking of Chroming them, but then, The Flames began. I get it. I don't want to look like a D Bag, but it is still an option for me as I think it MIGHT look good on my Black car. However, now, I'm second guessing my decision.

Maybe I am less cool than I was several years ago and didn't realize it....OK, so what the heck to do?

1. Keep the Stock OEM Coupe wheels (Paid $600) and put them on my Sedan? Should or Can I get them refinished where they look like NEW again? Who does this?

2. Get aftermarket 19" wheels, like VMR's, or another brand, in Hyper Silver?

3. Chrome them ($800 bucks and they will look like new wheels) and possibly look like a D Bag

4. What other option? I heard polish them, but too much work to upkeep.

5. Any other suggestions?

I am going for a classy, sporty look. Not an 18 year old kid look, I'm a Banker, but a cool Banker, sometimes.

OK, thanks for all the advice. You guys have all been great. Even the ones who slammed me for wanting Chrome. I justy want honest opinions. In the end I will do what I think is best, but the comments definately influence my decisions.

The Bandit...............

1) That's always an option. Refinishing and/or having it re-powdercoated should set you back no more than $400 from reputable wheel refinishers. Might want to specify where you live so folks can make suggestions.

2) That's always an option. Hyper Silver is a nice bright silver, i'm a fan of it.

3) eh.

4) You can have a clearcoat over a polished or machined finish. Upkeep will be no different from wheels you've had in the past.

5) Just go with what you like the best. After all, it's you who'll be seeing and experiencing the wheels the most. We're just a bunch of folks staring at screens.

Mike, Hyper Silver I like TOO. I just wasn't aware if that is a color from a cetrtain Mfg. or a process and application that is an option when you get a wheel refinished. I just called a place in Dallas, TX that does repair.

MY NEXT STEP. Is to Clean the wheels I bought REALLY GOOD. Then determine if they are discolored or peeled in a few areas, or just dirty. Once I know what I am working , I can make a decision. Like I said, Might just keep the stockers and enjoy the 2" larger wheels and tires.

Appreciate your response Mike.

Replying to my Own Post. BUT, Found a Very Comprehensive VIDEO of Wheels. It is awesome. Explains, parts of wheels, repair, straightening, Hyper Silver (more expensive).

Check it out. I think it was really Good:

Yeah, I am starting to LEAN that way! Also I DONT Have Chrome Door Handles OR Chrome between my front and rear windows on the A Pillars. Just a chrome piece that frames the A Pillars, SO, I am not over chromed right now!

I just have a chrome Grill and the small piece on the trunk lid. The coupe wheels (10 single spokes) might look really nice in chrome. if they were a different wheel, it COULD make it look cheesy and like a Gansta, but in Black with OEM INFINITI Wheels, it might just look Boss.

I might become the 2009G37 Boss Bandit if I get Chrome. i am sure other will call me the 2009 G37 D Bag Bandit........... LOL

The wheels I have are in NICE condition, but one is peeling, the paint is peeling of in a section, NO CURN Rash etc. I woul dlaos like Hyper Silver as an alternative.

If I do go Chrome from LA wheel and tire, then they strip my wheel and make it perfect before they chrome it so I will have brand new Chromies. With the Black Car with basically NO OTHER Chrome on the side of the Car (Door Handles, piece between the front and rear windows, or anywhere else, I might not look OVER Chromed.

I am still debating. I'm in no rush! If the rims were Cherry, I would just slap them on and be done. i can also get them repaired. Again on a scale of 1-10, the rims I bought are an 8, NO Rash, just a few areas of different colors (due to the coating peeling off).

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, it's just a friggin stock OEM InfinitWheelwheel, it's not like I am getting neon lights under the car and a Canon exhaust.

I just want to be The Boss! LOL

If you decide to go a different route. I'll buy them off you to trade for Pollo's Advans.

If I were to do anything to mine, I'd powder coat them. So many color options and very durable. If you check the G of the month thread, Tim's are PC in hyper gloss black.

A majority of the consensus here will say no to chrome, including me. Will I think you're a DBag if you go chrome? NOPE. IDK why you keep saying that.

Seems like you really want to go chrome, it's your car - your choice.

I'm just saying that phrase to make a point and to be funny. I wouldn't read into it too much. Are you a Camp Counselor or something? See that was funny too, well, little tiny bit funny.

I know,,,,,,,,,,,,,, get what I WANT, but, definatly all the posts have influenced my decision to some degree. I GET the Chrome thing because I DON'T want it to look Gaudy, or TOO Over the Top. Actually, Hyper Silver would be a great middle ground, BUT, you have to find the right place to do it. Hyper Silver cost more than Chrome too.

One place told me $225-$240 a wheel. Remeber I am just giving somone MY newly purchased used OEM 19's and eithe fixing them, chroming them, or doing Hyper Silver. If I KNEW a Great place that did the HS, I would be looking at this really hard, but it is relatively NEW Process and you have to somewhat know what your doing for it to look right.

Thanks for the comments Man!

I would suggest just getting the 1 wheel that has some peeling and refinishing that one to match the other 3. Keep it OEM. why spend $ on the other 3 wheels if you don't need to. This shouldn't cost you more than $100 per wheel.

Sniper,

I Am SERIOUSLY thinking about this. I need to CLEAN all the wheels tomorrow to see if just that ONE Wheelhas the Peeling paint or whatever the hell it is that is peeling off, or if there are Other Wheels withissues. I wasn't goign to clean them initially after I bought them, because if I chromed them, they strip them and clean them as part of their process.

Found 2 professional places IN DALLAS where I basically live, that could fix my wheels. Again, no curb rash, just some discoloration from the peeling so it looks like the wheel is 2 different colors in a few areas. Any halfway decent person can do this in their sleep.

If I decide to keep stock, then I save about a Grand and can use that for my new tires. Looking at Mich Pilot Summer Sports, or something like that.

Thanks! Decisions, Desisions!

OK, JUST went down to look at my 19" Wheels. it Appears that only 1 has the peeling paint in a few areas. it looks liek the silver paint has just peeled off. Another rim has MINOR nick on the face of the spoke of the wheel. Pretty minor.

I would LOVE to get these done in Hyper Silver. I think that might be a good middle ground between chrome and stock.

Guys, does anyone know if the STOCK OEM Finish on any Infiniti Wheel is "Hyper Silver"???

I keep reading that the stock Infiniti Rims are finished in Hyper Silver?

Here are the wheels I bought. I can take better pictures, but these were from the classified section from the person that placed the ad. They are 19" Stock OEM COUPE Wheels off his 2008 G37 Coupe with 23K Miles when he took them off. No Curb Rash at All!

You can see the PEELING Damage that one wheel has, it's not REALLY Bad, but it is in several areas and it is in more areas than you see in that one picture. It looks like the wheel is 2 different colors because it's peeling. See belowat 12 O'Clock in the picture, it's onthe top lip of the wheel:

The little surface nick on the face of the spoke you can see, and it is minor and likley cheap and easy to fix, sanding and a shot of paint from a pro!
