When installing tanabe coils you reuse the stock upper mount in the front. Do you need a spring compressor when taking the upper mounts off the top of the stock spring? How much pressure is that spring under?

 

Yes, use a spring compressor for that. And be careful, compressed springs are under alot of pressure

 

Please be careful, to many horror stories out there when people use spring compressors and don't know what they are doing.

 

There is a thread about this. But you can take off the main bolt from the engine compartment before you remove the 3 nuts that hold the strut and use the car as the spring compressor. Then after you have the main bolt off jack up the body of the car and the strut and spring will come apart. Remove wheel and all other bolts to remove strut and when you reinstall the new springs they are shorter so you won't have to worry about compressing it. If needed you can even put a block under the lower arm and lower the body to compress the spring and reinsert the strut into the top plate.

thanks guys. ended up running to advanced auto parts and just renting a spring compressor. I think everything turned out really well. I am very impressed with the ride of the Tanabe coils. I only have experience with springs on my previous cars. Coils are a big ride improvement.
