Disappointed in H&R Spacers

Ok, so after getting the KWV3's on and sway bars, I wanted to make the cosmetics look just as good as the driving experience, so I got 5mm spacers in the front and 15mm in the rear.

After install I had a bad shimmy in the front, took them off and drove the car, most of the shimmy was gone, but still a small imbalance issue in the rear.

Took the rear off and the car is as smooth as glass again.

I thought H&R spacers were supposed to be the best of the best and that is why you pay more for them over the cheaper ones, so you don't have shimmy issues.

Anybody else have issues with H&R Spacers?

FYI, they were dealer installed, and not done by a backyard mechanic.

Any better quality brands out there?

I will not ruin ride quality for looks.

thanks

I have some H&R DRS's on my car now, 15mm all around. I had them installed by my tire guy in town whom does pretty good work. Upon first drive, I had the same vibrations at between 60-75 mph. I took the car back to the shop and had him rotate the spacers around and retorque the bolts. Now I only get a very slight vibration, like I can barely feel it through the seat, when I hit 68+-2mph. And the vib's only happen when it's cold out and wet, not sure why.

Yeah I got slight vibrations as well between 120 and 140kph

I had 20mm up front, now on 25mm.. and both of them vibrated lol

Not sure if crush rings would solve this

Thats the problem. They were slammed down with an impact gun at the dealer.

This applies for DRMs:

I installed mine by hand, snug the bolts down in a star pattern by hand.
Then torque them to 20lbs in a star pattern by hand with a torque wrench, followed by 40lbs, then 80lbs.
Do the same for the wheels.

Im running 20mm H&R DRMs no vibration whatsoever.

20mm H&R DRM's on sedan here

had mine put on at a local shop, torqued to 80lbs, no issues....wheels look waaaaaaay better flush to the fender. Which reminds me, might be time to check & re-torque just to be safe.

Correction, I'm running 20mm h&r spacers all the way around with no vibration issue. I had to install new lugs with mine. No hub spacers. Just one big chunk of metal with a bunch of holes drilled in it. Slide it on the lugs, slide the wheel on, torque it down. Done.

Could this have anything to do with them having a CB of 66.2mm when the car calls for 66.1mm?

The problem is they are not installed correctly. You have to torque them by hand as the above poster mentioned. Also, it helps to sand the hub with some fine sandpaper to get rid of any raised rough spots and ensure a perfectly smooth surface for the spacer to mate with.

I have had zero problems with mine.

As long as the spacers are properly installed, you shouldn't have vibration issues. As far as H&R being the best of the best out there, I would say Project Kics are the best in the market. However, H&R spacers are very comparable to the Project Kics in quality.. also they are hubcentric so they don't require hub centric rings. Project Kics require hubcentric rings for certain applications. I personally would stay away from Ichiba's. I've heard many horror stories of wheel vibrations, damaged hubs, and even cracking of the spacers in some cases. Made in China FTL.

In your case, re-install them properly by hand torquing them to 80-85lbs., you should be alright. Most of these issues people end up having with spacers are due to poor installations.
