recommendations for painting/powdercoating rims

I just bought a newer set of OEM rims and tires (thanks Josh89!). I want to repair the curb rashes then paint my original rims gloss or matte black for the winter tires. Anybody have some hints as to what to avoid or must do's before I get this underway? Preeshiate-it!

dont paint, waste of money and will chip easy (especially for winter driving). most places that powder coat wheels will fix the curb rash before hand for free. where are you located.

Live in calgary Alberta. winters are usullay cool and dry with the occasional snowfall that will only last a few days but always lots of pea gravel and salt. Murderous on all cars.
