Max front wheel / size width?

here is an example, i went to my friends house and he let me see this wheel on. its a 18x9.0 with 275/40 nitto nt05 tires.
i love the look, just never turned the wheel / rolled with em. and see the smaller gap on the top of the tire? sam - that was the question i was having. why is my gap smaller than yours even with stock wheels if you kept stock diameter (wheel + tire)
