A few questions.

I am bringing my car in to the dealership tomorrow because my steering wheel vibrates when I apply my brakes, around 50mph. I was wondering if it is because of warped rotors. How much does the stealership charge? Or can it be something else?

And when I'm driving, I've been hearing thumps from my tires. What can be the issue? Maybe my tires are out of balance?

I really don't want to pay the inspection fee, so I want to go in there to tell them what they need to fix.

If you have warped rotors that would be covered under warranty I believe since your car is fairly new (assuming it's a G37)

Thumping tires? Definitely not good, did you go over a giant pothole? Could've bent a rim in that case.

Miles?

Shouldn't be an inspection fee if you're under warranty..that's what it's for

I just got back from the dealer and I was quoted 360$ for the rotors, front and back. Apparently it isn't covered under warranty (leased, 21k).

Brakes are not covered under warranty as they are a wear item. Sometimes a dealership will help you out with things like this as a gesture of customer goodwill depending on the circumstances, but they re in now way obligated to. $360 for all 4 rotors isn't a bad price at all if they need to be replaced. What did they say was wrong and what caused it?

Service guy said that it is definitely rotors when the handle shakes. I asked if they can check it but I had to pay an inspection fee so I just left. I'm bringing it to another shop in a few days.

take it to a regular brake shop and have the rotors checked. if its not bad enough you can have the rotors turned for much cheaper.

Takes a lot to warp a rotor, typically more than daily driving. Pads might not have been bedded in correctly causing build up of transfer film on the rotor.

^good points too.

i had my rotors warped by a shop overtightening my lugs though so that could have done it.

Yeah, i'll be taking my car into another shop this weekend.

Does anyone know why I have thumping noises when I drive? It's sort of like a rhythm, when I go fast, the thumping noise increases, the slower I go, the slower the thumping noise. I'm not positive but I hear it in the front passenger side tires..

Also, if I bring it into the dealer for them to check the "thumping" noise, will they charge an inspection fee if I don't fix the problem that they find?

Thanks!

actually i find it easy to warp the rotors on the g37 - coupe and sedan. on my coupe i managed to warp the rotors doing some hard brakes at around 50-60mph just a handful times. the dealer replaced the rotors and brakes under warranty (6k), but i found that almost every single one of the g37 sedans that i got as loaners had warped rotors as well.

This is totally O/T but I had a similar situation with my FX. I had a mechanical sounding "cllick" coming from the wheels. I could clearly hear it with the windows down and I spent days just going over the wheels and tires.
Finally...after almost going insane..i found it one night. it was a piece of duct tape stuck to my tire.
go figure.
