Need help understanding the wheels on the G37S...

Ok, so I have the G37S and I'm starting to look NOW for a new set of rims so I can purchase winter tires for the car. I'm in no rush whatsoever though. Just in case it does snow here in Jersey. Anyways...I want to know if 18-inch rims would fit this car of mine.

The reason I ask is this.... I read in a forum that since our cars are 19's and we have 14-inch rotors....the 18's won't clear it... however.... when I looked into the trunk of the car and looked at the spare tire... there is an 18-inch rim inside. I am assuming that the 18-inch is the lowest size rim this car can handle.

Why would I want 18-inch rims? I want to add a little more rubber on the winter wheels.

Also, the idea of an offset....simply put... that's just how far out or inward the wheel is from the rotors correct?

Thanks in advance for any help!

haha exactly.

just fyi though, i live in stl and we had a pretty icy/snowy winter last november-april and the stock 19's did a lot better than i thought. a few slips here and there when it was really icy, but definitely no need to drop down to 18's just to get a little more rubber.
