Koni Shocks for G37x sedan

Hey guys! I am researching the very limited aftermarket suspension options available for us AWD sedan guys.... It seems like we have like 2 options for shocks/struts lol: OEM or the KYB OE replacements. In my research, I came across these nicer/better Koni shocks, but IIRC they are listed for the Sport model i.e. G37xS (sedan, sport).

My question is whether anyone thinks these would fit our AWD-x sedans? Perhaps with some minor modification? Or, don't even try because the setup between a Sport and non-Sport G37 is so different? And if they would fit, would anyone think they're a worthwhile upgrade over the KYB GR2s or whatever the factory OE replacement option?

I'm also thinking after doing the math that even if these shocks could fit and are better than OE... that it might be money better spent towards a set of coil-overs vs these Koni struts + some Swift lowering springs or something. The cost difference is probably negligible at that point.

But hey, let's talk about whether these shocks would fit or not! I'm curious if anyone has even tried. I mean, I don't know how much better or different the suspension components really are on the Sport models...

The Koni will only fit the rear of the G37x, not the front. But then again if you get a different front shock your balance will be off. You will have to go with KYB, OEM, or coil-overs. It is very limited for the G37x, I'm running KYB with Swift lowering springs for 3 years and have no issues. Also, it does not matter if it is a sport or base model G37x they are all the same thing from the aftermarket selection. And the only thing different between the G37 and G37x is the front strut.

Awesome thank you so much for that Said!

Honestly looks like I'm better off with some lowered stiffer Swift springs with a set of new, OE replacement KYB shocks/struts.... at least priced out, it's almost half the cost of a set of BC coil-overs.

I cannot decide if I want to spend the extra cash for coilovers... I'm not tracking my car, but I enjoy pushing the limits of performance in all aspects and don't like to "go half a**" on anything lol

Just buy the KYB from RockAuto comes with a lifetime warranty, and I believe they offer the cheapest pricing also, and there is always that 5% off coupon. I have personally never driven on coilovers so I can not really compare, but the ride is almost like stock but you do feel everything on the road. When you hit bumps you will feel it a lot more, but other than that it's perfect. Also, look into BC coilovers many have issues with them squeaking and what not over time. But if you want the best ride it will be the Fortune Auto.

Just do add-in if you want your car alignment within spec you will need front camber arms and rear camber arms with toe bolts. Many just run the rear camber/ toe bolts. I have SPC and no issues from all the abuse. But there are other brands such as SPL, Vodoo, etc.

Thanks yeah I might just do the KYB OE replacements from RockAuto as you said... Unless I stumble across piles of cash in the street... lol

What do you mean about the ride almost like stock and feeling bumps? I mean, when you said "ride is almost like stock but you do feel everything on the road. When you hit bumps you will feel it a lot more, but other than that it's perfect" - do you mean that's how the KYBs and Swift springs will feel? Or are you saying that's how coil-overs feel, despite never having driven a car on coil-overs?

I have all the rear arms/bars (from Z1, SPC, SPL, etc), rear diff poly bushings, Whiteline sway bar & end links, etc. I know I'll need another pro alignment once the new stuff is all installed. IME, not just any alignment shop can help a brother out lol they mostly not only suck at their jobs but have this deer in headlights look when you have all these cool suspension upgrades. It's like, "Hey I brought the car to you complete with way more adjustability for suspension and alignment than it came from the factory with, so why are you having such a hard time dialing things in? Or why do you tell me that you can't get the alignment right because I'm not using OEM parts?" - LOL the list goes on and on.

What I mean is that when driving on the highway or any smoothish road, it will feel like stock. But when you hit a bump or something it will be a bit stiffer, and you will feel it. This is with KYB + Swift Springs. But, you will also get a bit more road feel. If there is some imperfection in the road you will feel it a bit more than stock. Like I used to do 4hr drives with my car, and did not have any issues of it being all harsh and all.

Yeah, you will have to find a shop to get you dialed. It took me 3-4 shops until I found a guy that gets my spec into what I am needing which is -1 camber all around with 0.01-inch toe-in. I asked the other shops to do it and they just kept saying "we can try but won't guarantee it", which is when I leave.

Lol right on thanks man. Yeah I don't know if any coil-over set would feel better or worse than what you describe with the KYBs and Swifts.

Also right there with ya 100% on leaving shops when they say "we can try" lol

You can do BC or Fortune Auto. But, there is an issue with the BC coilover which is the infamous clunking. But, if you read about Fortune Auto many say that it drives better than OEM. So you can lower your car and not even lose any of the smooth ride.
