Has anyone nodded their isolator to go lower it seems like the isolator is huge(2-2.5 inches) I installed spring and I'm running a very aggressive rim setup. Removing the isolator wont be a good idea since the spring will move around. So I have 2 options cut the rear springs or cut isolator anyone have any experience with this ?

 

You mean the rear top-seats? I suppose you could lob off some material. I imagine it will make the ride harsher, tho.

Years ago I was looking to do the opposite, which was raise the rear a tiny bit. I got it into my head to put a rubber bushing on that ledge between the spring and the top-seat (which is why you see the tapered section suddenly vertical in this pic.) However clever the idea, it was a total failure.

But you're looking to cut material out of the top seat. And you're right, it's pretty thick. Understand, the spring compresses against that ledge pretty hard, kind of embeds itself into the rubber. So if you alter the thickness you might be compromising the integrity and the top-seat might someday rip apart. I mean, it's the size it is for a reason.

 

Oh my God. Here comes the new wave of young and broke G37 owners that resort to cutting their springs or doing some other dumb **** to lower their car because they can't afford to buy real lowering springs or coilovers.

 

That's a nice picture I was thinking leaving a quarter of an inch should lower about another inch which might be all I need

its what happens when you have real responsibilities and dont live in your moms basement. Not to mention the car is awd the cheapest coilovers are $1k and there are not available springs but one at this time

You've got at least a full inch of poke, so the neg camber will have to be pretty severe to draw in the top-of-tire, and that severe camber will itself look whacked and cause inner edge wear on the tires.

OP, not the advice you're looking for, but I don't think those wheels are a good fit for your car.

 

Well thanks for your useful input the rear has 0 camber at the moment so I will try the camber kit first and post an update here see what ya think. I know camber wrecks tires but I barely drive the car anyways. I'm not sure my springs have settled fully yet haven't drove the car around.

 

A car with toe out of spec will wear tires more quickly than a car with camber out of spec.

 

G37 have adjustable toe arms I think its _/+ 1 which is enough

 

this is a common mod with the g35 and more so on the 350z. theyve been doing it since the cars release to get the rear a little lower esp on the z. google about it

 

thanks bro your the man I found it searching quickly it's a common mod after all. They sell energy isolators but the negative is they dont have the cone shape going down the middle

Some of the stuff I've seen recently makes me sad to own a G

 

I would look for better fitting wheels.
