Removing Rear Brake Rotors
Need Help removing rear rotors:
I have a 2013 G37XS (all wheel drive) I cannot figure out how to determine when I turn the star nut on the emergency brake if the e-brake shoes are in. This is because I am unable to rotate the wheel to determine the amount of drag of the brakes. I tried putting the car in neutral and that didn't help. What is the trick?

Should be able to remove them without too much effort, if the parking brake isn't engaged just thread a bolt into that empty threaded hole in the rotor hat and should pop it loose. Not sure on the bolt size (think it's a 12mm head though) but I used one from somewhere in my engine bay, lol.
That works fine for the front rotors. To remove the rear rotors, you must first release the pressure of the emergency brakes inside by turning the star nut. My problem is that I can not turn the wheel and therefore when I re-adjust the emergency brakes out again I can't determine how much drag I am placing on the emergency brake pads.
first off no modern day car is equipped with e-brake or emergency brakes, they are parking brakes. there should just be minimal contact between the parking shoe and drum surface of the rotor. sounds like you need to back the adjustment off.
I just did front and rear pads/rotors. I turned the star nut down around 5 times then back up after the new rotor was on. Bang the **** out of the rotor with a rubber mallet and it should come off. I also grinded off as much rust as I could and then applied high temp grease to the hub area.
The G35 forum has a great post by Raygun earlier this month with a technique that works great.
You'll need a bolt (I think I used a 3/8"-16 x 3"), sized washer and sized nut to the bolt and two wrenches to fit the bolt and nut.
Basically, once the rear caliper has been removed and suspended and the parking brake star has been relaxed, feed the bolt through one of the caliper mounting holes with the bolt head toward the center of the car. Place the washer and then start the nut onto the bolt. The washer and nut should be held to the outer side of the caliper mounting hole and then start to thread the bolt onto the nut until the bolt contacts the rotor. Use the two wrenches to tighten the bolt/nut combo. This pushes the bolt into the rotor in a controlled fashion.
I tightened firmly and then tapped the rotor hat area with a small hammer and it popped right off. Others doing this trick report just tightening until the rotor pops off.
