So, I need to replace pads and rotors, and stumble across this. It SEEMS to be an upgrade very similar to the Akebono solution so many rave about: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...sn=607&jsn=607
It just seems too good to be true, $800 for calipers, rotors, and pads.

That does look like a great deal, although the calipers are re-manufactured they are using new internals, and hopefully the red finish coat is a quality job. Even with the core charge it's still very affordable. Those are reman'd Akebonos (unless the Chinese have started knocking those off too, lol) Nice find!
The only real downside is reman calipers are typically bead blasted and can have some knicks and dings so you may get some of those showing up under the red finish coat. Still, looks like a hard deal to pass up TBH.
I'm not so worried about a perfect finish. This is my daily, so some bonus brake performance for $300 over the price of a simple refresh seems like a no-brainer. I may not even want to keep them red if it's too bling-y. I am, after all, an old man, and have a grumpy reputation to maintain.
Another member just ordered those calipers from your find, interested to see the actual set

Attached a few shots of one of the front calipers. I'm no expert in powder coating, but it looks ok. A little thin over the raised numbers and letters on the back, but nothing chipped. A few minor flaws in the coating, but nothing to get into a twist about IMO.

Well, that was a quick trip to nowhere.
Got ready to attach the new line to the first rear caliper, but the banjo bolts do not fit the caliper threads. I can get 1/2 to 3/4 turn in and it stops. I've wrenched enough to know that either the threads are clogged or it's the wrong pitch. I confirmed clean threads in the caliper, and the correct M10 threads on the banjo bolt, so clearly the caliper threads don't match. I checked all four, and all four behave the same way.
The pucker factor on trying to cut threads in these is high, so I'll be pursuing some of that sweet, sweet customer service.

That's crazy
Wonder if the threads were damaged prior and they had to go a different size, but that would make the bolt looser??? So strange as this brake set is listed specifically for Infiniti Gs and Nissan Zs from what I can tell.

Ok, I was too timid in the cold garage the other day, and I feel really dumb. Since the bolt didn't thread in by hand, I did not risk using a wrench and wrecking the caliper. The threads are fine, but running the bolts in did produce some very fine shavings, which I swabbed and then blew out.
Just a final update: The calipers are finally installed. This is my first experience owning a car with a "true" BBK and WOW. Monstrous stopping, improved pedal modulation...these are great.
One more small hiccup. If you look closely at the first picture I posted above, of the front of the caliper, and zoom in on the caliper mounting points you may notice something important is missing. Yep, the thread inserts which have, you know, the THREADS in them.
Since I replaced the calipers in the correct bleed order, it was the last one to be replaced late in the evening. Had to button up with the old caliper/rotor temporarily and let the car sit for a couple of days in the garage waiting for a replacement.
So, not a perfect experience, but I will say that RockAuto's customer service thus far has been great, and I'll definitely use them more often.

Thanks Surfnazi, good advice. There actually wasn't any powdercoat impeding any of the threads. The inserts for mounting the calipers were clean metal, and the hose attachment point had a wide margin of clean metal around the threads.
