Re-Tune After Suspension Upgrade ?

This may be a stupid question but i cannot seem to find the answer anywhere on the internet. I picked up a G37 not too long ago and I officially made the decision to go performance first and I was wondering if I will need to get a retune after I upgrade my suspension.

I am planning on just getting Gen 3s, Stillen CBE, and ECUtek e tune. Should I wait to do the suspension to get the E tune or will it make much of a difference. I have had different answers from different people so I would love to get some opinions.

Basically, if I get a tune on my stock suspension, will I have to get my car retuned after I lower my car and put bigger wheels on it?

Thanks

Other putting power to the ground, your suspension has no connection to the engine. Tune 'til you're sick of it or broke, whichever comes first.

No need for tune after suspension, as they have very little to do with each other. Depending on your suspension mod, you may want to do an alignment though.

BTW, do a tiny bit of research on what you're getting for the money when you upgrade performance. The mods you listed above will cost you like $2-2.5K for around 20whp gain. Just food for thought.

Look up some dynos and stuff so you get a better idea of what to expect.

Suggest evaluating what you want out of this car. If you want a fun drive, may want to upgrade your suspension first. Cheaper too, unless you want some nice coilovers.

$1200 for the CBE, 470 for the CAI, and 850 for the custom tune. I have the 7AT so when I look at the tune, I'm not looking for big number gains but a better, smoother,and faster responding transmission that will also utilize the bolt ons I'm getting while sounding nice. I have done plenty of research on these cars and I understand that there is only so much you can do with this engine NA. All my cars in the past, I went straight to wheels and suspension but i want to switch it up a bit. This car is also my daily and with 29k miles on the clock, I have a lot more time to worry about looks. I only picked it up about a month ago and with winter approaching, I'll only have a few months with wheels before I put my stockies on for the winter. If I had the 6MT though, it would be a different story. I want a really fun daily that I can take to the track eventually. Either way, I would of got to this point down the line if i went with suspension and wheels first.

I have a IPL, which has IPL tune and true dual exhaust. I had a short ram intake and got custom tuned at specialty z's shop in person. I went from 278 to 282-284whp. You're going to put up similar numbers maybe a couple more hp because you have stillen cbe.

BTW why stillen? Why not a more popular brand since you're spending $1200? For a more stock sounding system, I'd go for HKS, which is around 1100. Or if you want louder, ARK. If you don't mind waiting a little, FI CBE cost around 1400. Honestly feel like $1200 for stillen sounds like a lot. You're literally just paying for the name, which I feel doesn't mean much. If you want close to stock and don't want HKS, I'd go with invidia q300, it's cheap, it sounds good (people complain it's too quiet) and a lot of people here have it.

Tune does make the car more spry, and make it feel like the car wants to go faster.

I would also recommend 4.08 gears if you're looking for performance. I'm still debating because I'm not sure I want to further degrade my MPG. This mod will basically let your car get to higher RPM bands faster. No actual HP gain, but you accelerate faster. Your butt dyno will definitely feel it.

Oh yeah, get your tune last. After you're done with all other performance mods. I made that mistake and it will cost me a few hundred dollars.

Well, you have a manual transmission so you can actually control the entire transmission unlike me. The automatic transmission sucks and the tune to me seems so worth it just to make the transmission better.

About the exhausts..I forgot the mention that I have a AWD Sedan so my exhaust options are EXTREMELY limited. Trust me, coming from a Japanese native, I would love to go HKS but there's no option that I know of for the AWD sedan. I want to go Stillen because of its quality and price. Fast intentions and ARK are a lot more expensive and all of those options compared to stock, are noticeable in my opinion. Also, ARK exhausts hang a little low and I am planning to go LOW in the future. Great input though, I appreciate the thought.

I have a 7AT IPL, not manual.

ARK isn't that much more expensive. Hit up vendor MerakiAutoworks and tell him I sent you. I shopped around a month ago and he was able to give me the best deal.

I have swift springs, which are 1.3" lower. It's OK and does not scrape so much that it's a problem. I used to scrape with my stock IPL exhaust. I was super worried about the scraping; you'll probably find a few threads where I was freaking out about it. But after owning it for a few weeks, it's not that bad at all. Just be a little more careful and you'll be fine.

Most the complaints of scraping were from the v1 days. the v2 is a little better. Everything new you buy is going to be v2. And BTW that was for coupe only. Pretty sure there will be no problems with sedan. Just look at the pictures, it looks near stock height. Doesn't look low at all. Check out their website.

Ark isn't too quiet though. If you want a more stock level exhaust, get Invidia Q300. It's cheap, it sounds good and it's not loud. Biggest complaint of this system is that it isn't loud enough.

I actually kind of regret not looking into q300 more. i wouldn't be hesitant to get hfc if i had q300. $900 for a 2.36" system isn't bad. I would get Q300 over stillen any day of the week.

Engine tuning has nothing to do with suspension tuning. What would you possibly think could be gained from retuning an engine after adding suspension parts?

Tune after significant intake/engine/transmission/exhaust upgrades. Suspension is completely different.

3000 RPM at 72 MPH in 6th Gear in my 6MT. So, no big deal. The mileage "hit" on the 6MT only applies to highway driving, because you're choosing the gear, not the car. It's negligible to the point of being irrelevant, IMO. That said, I suspect the 7AT is different.

It can take a few weeks to get used to it, and you do get used to it, where eventually driving the car is a completely normal experience. But in those first few weeks, it was a truly shocking rush of low-end speed that you feel in your chest. It's pretty awesome.

Months later, I'm still taken by surprise sometimes how ferocious the car can be off the line. Which means you need big performance tires and limited slip if you want to keep the car steady.

The only reason I started to think about it was because I started getting really deep into rotational mass and unsprung vs sprung weight. I went so in depth in my research I started wondering if I lessened the rotational mass, it would effect how much more power will be sent to the wheels and how that possibly could make an effect on the logging process and what he goes by.

Well, I live in a Cincinnati and it's safe to say that the roads here aren't too friendly to slammed cars. I'm stuck between ARK and Stillen because I want to eventually have HFC but am waiting on how loud it will be. I took my mufflers off for fun one day and it really wasn't that loud to me.

I got my info from a post by a 7AT guy.

He was saying how it wasn't so bad, but I was fairly disappointed how much higher cruise idle was. He went from 2800 or 2900 to 3400, which is a 500 increase. To me at least, that's significant enough that I have second thoughts.

Ark isn't quiet. That's what I have installed.

Ark = 2.5"
Stillen = 2.125"
Invidia = 2.36"

I still think you should look into invidia q300 instead of stillen. Cheaper, a bit more flow and still quiet. Look it up on youtube and have a few listens. Remember to listen to in cabin videos too.

I know the ARK is loud...I've heard it in real life..All I am saying is that I'm waiting to get HFC until I have the exhaust installed and see if I'm ready to step it up.
