Can anyone confirm this about rear suspension
Can anyone confirm this about rear suspension
I was told by a local performance shop that the G37 convertible coupes have the same chassis and rear shock tower structure as my 2012 G37xS nonconvertible coupe. Is this true?
He also said that the only difference between the G37 convertibles coupes and the G37xS Coupe that I have in terms of rear suspension is that the G37 convertible coupe uses a coilover system in the rear rather than a unit where the shocks and springs are separated (like my G37xS). Is this true as well?
I get the feeling that he was trying to push for a True Style coilover since I am currently in the market for a suspension upgrade.
Every performance shop I have spoke with said the true style coilovers will be fine and the rear shock tower can support the weight of my car and then some. However, when I called Infiniti consumers affair department, they said they only support OEM style suspension and cannot comment on coilovers upgrades.
My conundrum is that I research the hell out of this past entire year, but I cannot find a definitive answer on this. Will true style coilovers weaken the rear shock tower on my nonconvertible G37xS coupe over time or can a true style coilover be used?
Thanks!

Not sure about the whole convertible side of things so I'm not going to comment on that at all.
But I have a G37xS as well and as far as I know, there is only 1 true-style coilover style for the AWD and thats the Stance Coilovers. That would fully support your vehicle. With those installed you get rid of your bucket springs and can even do a spring bucket delete.

I was wondering if the rear shock tower on our G37xS coupe can support the force and weight of the car given that the point of support in a true style coilover system now rest on two points in the rear instead of 4 (2 on the chassis from the springs and 2 from the shock towers) based on OEM set up.
Do you know?
I can't give you a definitive answer on whether or not that would happen as I run Fortune Auto 500's but I am sure that it is no problem at all. I've been on this forum for a good while now and I've done a ton of research on coilovers and never once have I heard such a thing with the Stance True-Style coilovers.

The Z guys that really push their cars and are running true type coilovers recommend beefing up that upper mount area. Don't have the link but should be able to find it with google, something like "370z upper shock mount support for true coilovers" should get you some feedback.
I think BC also makes a true type for the X as well.
And the convertible coilovers that are offered, and there aren't many, are different part #s vs. the coupes and I know the extra vert weight will play a role in the spring rates as well, also the vert rear LCAs are different from all the other Gs.
