Squealing coming from rear rotors/brakes at low speeds.

I just installed new rear rotors and brake pads. After about a day I started hearing a squealing noise coming from the rear of my car. It only happens at about under 20 mph and gets louder the slower I go. It goes away completely when I press the brake pedal. It also starts to squeal faster and faster as I accelerate. Like squeal........squeal......squeal....squeal..squeal .squealsqueal as I go faster. Anyone have an idea as to what's causing this?

Could be as simple as a rock stuck between the pad and rotor surface. Could also be a sticking caliper. Take it to a shop and have them take a look.

Well we could rule out sticking calipers. My car only has 16k miles, and there is no pull to one side when braking, and it doesn't feel like brakes are still being applied when I lift off the pedal.

Do you get vibrations when braking? My be a rotor warped enough to just catch the pad as it rotates. If it's not warped rotors and you know for sure it's coming from the brakes (as it sound since it goes away when they are applied) the a sticking caliper is the most likely cause.

No vibrations. Rotors and pads are brand new. I highly doubt the caliper is sticking since I would feel it. Something is rubbing against the rotor back there somewhere. I was just wondering if anyone had this issue before and fixed it.

Check the shims and hardware. Did you use any brake grease?

i would take off the wheel and give it a good visual inspection. perhaps backing plate is rubbing or maybe the brake pad has chipped off on the edge of pad or has a crack on the face. are you using quality pads or some hard azz ceramic pads that tear into rotors?

I'm using stoptech pads. I also greased everything. But I guess I will end up just taking the brakes apart again and see what happens.

It could also be brake dust. Its normal and it comes and goes. Should be fine as long as braking performance is not affected.
