Hawk HPS pads

I just switched from the OEM BBK to Powerstop slotted rotors and Hawk HPS pads. The HPS don't seem as grabby and require more pedal. Do I need to bleed the brakes or is this normal for the HPS pads?

Did you bed-in the pads yet?

I bought them from a previous G owner who said they had about 4K miles on them.

Having to use more pedal would seem like the pads are worn more than the ones you replaced them with. It may just seem that way since the pads aren't biting like you thought they would. You might try to re-bed them, they may not have ever been bedded, here's a good site for reference

I'll give it a shot but the "new" pads are much thicker than the OEMs. The rears were close to bare metal.

If that's the case then I'd imagine it's just the different grip (or lackthereof) of the new set as far as needing more pedal.
Did you just swap pads & rotors without opening any bleed screws? If so, you should be good to go, although a complete flush of your old fluid is never a bad idea if it's been a couple years.

My plan was to flush the brakes this coming week so we'll see if that helps.

Good plan, I'd wait to re-bed the pads until after you change out the fluid.

I'm having the same issue. Just installed new hawk 5.0s all around with centric premium rotors. Bleed and replaced the fluid as well as bedded them in per the procedure (bedding brakes are pretty intense I might add. I cooked mine to the point where the it took a very long distance to stop by the 10th run. good thing it was in an industrial area) but as op stated the bite isn't as agressive as before. Stock pads and rotors I remember I were very sensitive. Now not so much.

I always noticed the stock brakes to be a lot more grabby as well. Switching to different rotor and pad setup seems to reduce the grabby feel and allow more precise control over braking. If I need to stop fast I just dig into the brake pedal a little harder

I am currently using the Hawk HPS pads on my G.. Great pads! I think next go around ill go for the Hawk Ceramics though. The brake dust from the HPS pads is just a little too much for my taste.

I just installed Hawk HPS with EBC slotted rotors on my 2010 G37S Coupe.
We also installed new DOT4 fluid and bled out the lines.
Performed the bed in per Hawk instructions.
I notice these pads take a little more travel and have less initial bite than the OEM even though my OEM pads and rotors were totally done.
I only have about 100km on them right now so I'm a allowing a little more time to break in.
The Hawks seem to like a little more heat to bite well. When they dig in they really dig in.

I agree. Hawk hps especially the hps+ needs to warm up in order to grip well.
