Toyo proxes4plus..REVIEW

Just a note to help anyone looking at these tires....they came on the car when I bought it & were brand new. I'm not replacing brand new tires...they didn't seem that bad. I understand they are not summer tires & the performance is not geared towards that...
But these tires just SUCK in the rain. The car is sliding all over the place with any strong acceleration. The traction lights is always flashing. Trying to pass someone hard on the HW in the rain is a scary event.
Dry traction is actually decent...but wet...hold on. Had them about 4 months.

I have them and haven't had any real "hang on for dear life" events, but I drive a bit subdued in the rain. I've got about 26k miles on them and I'll be going w/ summer tires when the time comes. The Toyo T1Sports are a much better tire for wet & dry, a friend of mine has them on his C6 Vette and the grip is night & day compared to the 4 plus A/Ss

Like you said, the dry grip is pretty solid, I can break them free in 1st & 2nd but the release is predictable & consistent.

Maybe it's driver error vs the tires. These car break loose on the rear extremely easy..especially in the rain. Why don't you try adjusting your driving habits? Why do you need strong acceleration when passing someone in the rain? Just feather the pedal to safely pass someone in the rain.

I had the 4plus on my car for about 6000 miles and had the same problem you described. I hated driving my car in the rain on those tires. Well I sold those wheels and got some summer tires on my new wheels to remedy. Plus it has nothing to do with driving style. The rain channels and thread design have something to do with it, and if your running camber anywhere below - 2 degrees the wet grip diminishes. However the new tires I purchased the T1 sport as awesome in the rain. Even under hard acceleration they break loose close to 6000 rpm. I was going to write a review just never got around to it.

I had way more power in my previous RWD car. Maybe I do drive a bit fast but I don't overdrive the conditions. The car shouldn't slip the rear tires when trying to merge on the HW from an on ramp. South Fl drivers are a bit aggressive & will let you hit the grass or a pole before letting you merge....
All I had were summer tires on all my cars. Going to start a Pilot tire fund..

Same thing I said. I just picked up Goodyear IceGrip WRT for my stock wheels. I paid about $590 for the set brand new.

Go with T1 Sport and get the same performance as a PSS tire for a few hundred less.

I currently have these and have no complaints with them. Fine wet driving as well as in cold temps, I still feel the traction and planted to the road.

Not sure on that, I wasn't very happy with the T1R's that replaced the original T1S's...That was a great tire why they felt the need to kill it?

The T1R was a good tire. Even the original proxes 4 were good I don't know what they messed that one up. Just so you know I did the 45 day/500 mile trial on the T1S and only kept them because they were exactly what I was looking for. My next choice were either Bridgestone RE-11 or the Michelin PSN even though there was a $400 difference.

Question....I took out the spare tire months ago. Could the lack of enough weight in the rear be causing this?
This morning was really bad. I was sliding all over just trying to pass someone or accelerate to HW speed on the wet roadway.

I thinks it's possible, but depending on how much it weighs. What are you suspension specs? Tire sizes/negative camber/ toe.

Stock sport 19" sizes, running 38PSI cold all around, Stock suspension(24K miles only)Eibach sways. No idea on alignment. Had it done before I bought it. Tire wear looks ok, but I only had the car for 4500 miles.
