Swifts and alignment

Hey guys... I have had my swift springs on my 2012 g37xS for about 2 weeks now so I took it for an alignment today, bad news. They said they can't do it, I'll need camber arms to get back into spec or I'll see tire wear in like 6-8months.

I've seen plenty of posts of ppl getting them back to spec without camber arms (or close enough) I wonder why my guy struggled so much. Does this mean I need to shop around a bit more or just bite the bullet and buy the arms?

There is a place near me that works on lowered cars but they need the car for the whole day and its $130 for alignment with no guarantee they can get it in spec. And the guy is a **** so I avoided him this time lol... Do I give him a. Shot?
Thanks

I'd avoid that shop, especially if the guy is a d-bag, means he probably doesn't want to do it. Many alignment places just deal w/ stock cars & trucks. This just involves a few turns of the wrench. Lowered cars have to perform the balancing act of the toe & camber more so than "regular" cars.
Shop around, even go to a shop that sells performance parts to the younger crowd that drives lowered rides, they should be able to refer you to a good shop. Where I live there's about a dozen alignment places and only two that could work on my lowered G, the others either didn't want to do it or didn't have ramps that I could drive my car onto (or both). The place I ended going to was awesome, took plenty of time to get everything right, got a detailed print-out and this was about $110 and included adjusting all the new arms and toe kits.
So yep, keep shopping!

Next question. Seen mixed reviews on this. I just dropped my car off for alignment and the guy said I should have gotten it aligned with my new wheels, as opposed to my stock wheels. He said since the offsets are different it won't be perfect. Is that true?

Here is the spec sheet... Hoping to avoid increased tire wear, Do you guys think I should invest in camber arms?

The image is too small to read, even after clicking on it.

I'm interested because I just dropped mine on Swifts too and I've for about 2 degrees of camber all around. Wonder if I need a camber kit.

I'd like to put in my two cents here...I have a 2012 g37S, dropped on swifts exactly a year now. Before I lowered my G, I felt that I really did all the research I could. Should I get a Camber kit? Alignment afterwards? Ect.

Well, the Infiniti dealerships run $99 alignment specials all the time here, so you might want to check at your local dealership for specials to. WARNING Do not tell them you installed lowering springs, or anything of that matter! Because they will question you as to why you would want an alignment on a new car. You tell them beforehand and most of the techs will NOT do it due to warranty. For $99 I got an alignment about 4 weeks after my drop. My wheels were fine, only by a hairline out of spec, the front a bit more than the back. They said it was ok, no camber kit needed.

Flash forward 12 months later...I'm shopping for a camber kit. My front tires are cambering so bad and rears are beginning to show as well. Last maintenance visit, Infiniti showed me how much my tires are terribly unevenly worn. (I travel long distances to work, hour drive each way, about 4 trips a week. ) I don't plan to go any lower, so if I had known that this would happen, I would have gone ahead and install a camber kit when I had my Swifts installed. Good luck! Hope my experience will help you decide!

Btw...anyone have camber kit suggestions I should look into???

So did you end up getting a camber kit? Looks like I have just about the same camber, maybe a touch more.

I don't drive very far to work, so time is on my side. I don't plan on a kit, but I'm the type that seems to like tough lessons.

I'd recommend getting the kits, it's cheaper in the long run than burning through tires and having to dismount & rotate tires all the time. I have SPC F&R + toe kit and have been very happy w/ them, only negatives about the SPCs if if you're really slammed, like 25" at the fender wells that the arms can hit the under fender. I'm at 26.25" all around (zero gap) and my camber is -1.1 and toe around -.05 give or take, and my staggered setup 245/295 tires are wearing perfectly

Hey blnewt, just curious, has your opinion on the kits changed?

In my other thread from July, you thought I should be fine, having minimal wear with frequent rotations. Just wondering if you're outlook has changed.

Seems the intitial reviews on the Swifts was that spec was able to be achieved after the drop but looking at most of the data recently it appears that they're dropping close to -2 on the camber, and while you can run -2 w/ frequent rotations it would be best to pony up the cost for the camber sets, so yeah, I guess I've shifted a bit from my previous opinion
I guess it really is one of those pay me now, or pay me later situations, and since being in spec is really never a bad thing might as well pay up front
