Newbie poster here, but love reading through the threads....they have been a TREMENDOUS help!

My question-It might be a coincidence but I just had my front and rear brakes done a couple of weeks back. On Monday I was in a drive-thru and heard a low squealing sound from what seemed like the left hand side. The brake pedal was NOT depressed. Then when I applied the brakes it went away. The speed was between 0-10 MPH (drive thru speed). I then took it to the dealer the next day. I was told that they could not duplicate the sound, but that they cleaned and glazed my pads to see if that would help. This a good dealership...they have never really given me any grief at all.

Well....on the way home I had another odd sound coming from what sounded like the rear of my vehicle. It happened when applying the brakes and also when not applying the brakes. It has gotten softer since last night, but the best way to describe the noise is to think of the sound that a salt shaker would make if you were to shake it...shhk,shhk,shhk and it is best heard in areas with raised curbs, for the echo effect. It sounds rotational, every couple of seconds and does occur when brakes are NOT applied.

Any thoughts on what would cause this?

 

to tell you the truth, i've had so many noise issues with this car i stopped caring, i just turn up my music now.

 

Could be your backing plate... Take off the wheel rear wheels and inspect the brakes... Clean them off with some brake cleaner and check to see if one side looks any different from the other, check the backing plates, pads, rotors and calipers... If you're back there bleed the brakes to get rid old brake fluid...if the brakes are fine it could be a number of things, worn bearings, faulty differential, faulty component parts or even the wheels them self. Give that a shot or take it back to the dealer and let them deal with it
