Pad thickness discrepency between dealer and state inspection

Hi Guys,

I've got a sticky situation here.

Just bought a '09 G37x CPO, I saw the dealer CPO certification paperwork stating that there is 90% pads left on the front and 60% in the rear. Infiniti CPO states that any pads with < 50% life be replaced. So far, so good, I'm happy.

Just got the MD inspection done from a well respected service station. They have measured 11/32 (34%) on the front and 7/32 (22%) on the rear.

  • The service station is willing to re-measure.
  • The Infiniti dealer is willing to look at the car as long as the service station re-measures

I was taking with the service station manager and he doesn't really know how to translate percentages (from the dealer) to actual thickness in fractions of an inch (measured by the station) . For example, if my rear pads have 7/32 we kind of need to know where the pads start at 100% new right? I feel like this is a dumb question but are 100% new pads at 32/32? I'm really not exactly how pads are measured...

Thanks,

Ben

No, new pads do not have 32/32" of friction material. That would be one full inch. I don't know the exact answer to your question, but I'm guessing somewhere around 12 or 13/32" when new.

Your pads are fine.
