Regular rotors or drilled and slotted?

Whats everyones opinion on getting rotors? I'm going to put the cv2s on my car and I want to get the akebono bbk that conceptz sells but I can't decide if I like the look of the regular rotors or the drilled and slotted look.

What does everyone think? I have the base coupe blue slate... I'm kind of thinking the d&s look might be a little too much but I can't decide!

If you just care about looks and are not planning on any serious track time then go for the Drilled and Slotted. If you plan on putting in any serious track time then go for the slotted. The performance of either on the street will be good. Conventional wisdom says that drilled rotors and heavy track use don't mix due to the increased propensity of cracking with drilled rotors.

I like the drilled look by itself. But I guess the slotted work out better for everyday use.

If you aren't getting lighter 2 pc. rotors to reduce weight, stick with OEM style.

The ones I'm looking at are the stop tech rotors. Do you not like the look of d&s or they're just not worth it performance wise?

Both. I got the 2 pc Racing Brake ones primarily because they're much lighter than stock. They are also an "open slot" design which is cast that way rather than drilling into the metal. I like the look of them better too.

heres the kit i'm thinking about getting. are these cast or drilled? do you know?
Akebono Infiniti G35 / G37 F & R 14 Inch Big Brake Kit w/ Stoptech Rotors, 07+ Sed, 08+ Cpe - performance parts

i'm starting to think either nothing at all or just slotted. i'm not crazy about the super aggressive look but i think the slotted adds just a little looks wise but i dont want to get them if its going to change a lot performance wise. would you recommend just getting the other kit they sell that are just the infiniti oem?

Those are drilled, not cast that way. Neither drilled, slotted, or both will change their performance significantly. Just get whichever you like better. If they're not lightweight they aren't going to make a significant performance difference.

Just curious... If the drilled rotors have a propensity for cracking, why do so many high performance and super exotics come stock with them? Those cars aren't purchased because they are going to be tracked necessarily, but they are typically driven hard which will super heat those rotors. BB do you think it's primarily because of looks?

Isn't there quite a bit of warpage potential with the 2 piece rotors as well? I support the fact that they are significantly lighter. There is just a lot less material, ergo making the potential for warping greater.

I really like the DBA product. The design makes so much sense! Heat dissipation is such a critical aspect of brake rotors that the greater surface area significantly increases.

https://www.myg37.com/forums/brakes-...rt-rotors.html

I get how the slotted creates the opportunity for better bite and get that if you drill through a piece of metal you weaken it. I just like the look of both on the rotor as an aesthetic. However, Raul's new slotted only rotors look sick too. It's cleaner and simpler like most of the rest of his car. They just fit with the whole look he has going.

I'm not sure if this discussion continues to help the OP, but I hope it does?

I'm certainly no brake expert by far. I don't know anything about the design or construction of drilled rotors on exotics. It could be for looks or for performance or both, I can't tell you.

I do know that the 2 pc rotors aren't inherently more prone to warpage. The weight savings comes mostly from much lighter forged aluminum hats, not less material in the discs. And the good thing is that if they do warp, the disc itself can be replaced independent of the hat rather than replacing the entire rotor. This is the design of the ones I have.
