Don't get Hawk HPS pads for your car. They have poor initial bite and needs time to get up to operating temperature to really bite hard. It is NOT a street pad.
HPS are track pads. The Ceramics are a good quiet, low dust street pad if you like Hawk.
Hawk HPS are definitely street pads --> they will not put up with serious track use. Like all good performance pads, they do require proper bedding for best results. Over time, like with any street pad, the transfer layer on the rotor will wear off -- especially if NOT used hard. Re-bedding every few months is a good idea if they only see mild use. While Hawk makes at least 8 track compounds that I am aware of (and more are in testing), HPS is not one of them.
Hawk Performance Ceramic are about the best overall compromise in a "ceramic" pad on the market today. While they give up some grip to the HPS, it isn't really too bad (about 15%). Many other ceramic options are much worse. The lighter colored dust is certainly a bonus for those looking to keep their wheels looking clean the longest.
Thank you for the correction of the erroneous information Chris. I meant the HP+, not the HPS. Sorry about that.
No worries. HP Plus is streetable, but tougher to live with compared to normal performance street pads for exactly the reason you gave. Unless you also like squeal, noise and dust!
I have seen Stoptech, AP Racing, Rotoras, and Brembo. I was looking mainly at Rotoras and Brembo. out of those four is there one you would recommend over Rotora or Brembo?
Rotora is a "bling bling" brand... minimal R&D. Brembos are an order of magnitude better.
Among the brands you listed:
Premium brands:
AP Racing
Brembo
Good:
Stoptech
Cheap:
Rotora
HP+ is a street/track hybrid pad, and that will ultimately hurt on-track performance, while having a lot of noise on the street. Stick to dedicated pads, and get two sets if you need both. I like blue's.
