I dont track, just want a peace of mind knowing when I need to stop, it will stop, rain or shine and smoother braking(currently feels jerky when coming to a stop or this normal?). I also get a bonus bling with the upgrade. To those with real life experience, does slotted/drilled rotor exhibit the disadvantage of both slotted and drilled rotors or the advantage of a slotted/drilled rotor out weight the negatives? Again, I dont track, just once in a while a little spirited drive and for peace of mind.
Or dont bother, the stock brakes are good enough, just get better pads? Thanks everyone!
The biggest value of a BBK is the increased heat sink capacity of the system. That is usually exhibited in repeated hard braking on a road race circuit. Having raced Nissans for years, neither slotted nor drilled rotors offer any appreciable advantages on the track or street. They cost more and put stress risers into the material, so just give me a standard rotor with modern racing pads.
The question of stock brakes ae always debated. On the G37xS, Infiniti deemed the standard brakes as having sufficent performance, and they'll certainly stop the car fine. BBKs won't stop the car any shorter, but repeated hard applications of the brakes is where they shine.
I have a 6mt sedan sport with the Akebonos and they are crap stock. I had to get better pads and they are better but nothing compared to the stock Brembos I had on my 03 6mt coupe. If you want a BBK, go with a someone other than Akebono.
