Not trying to knock your fact or anything, just saying what I have learned. I just dont understand how progressive springs are measured, since they have a range of spring rate.

Stock springs are usually not progressive, at least any I've seen. You can tell by looking at the spring. Look at how the coil diameter and wind is constant from top to bottom. I looked online at the Eibach springs. Progressive rates can be accomplished with multiple springs stacked on top of each other, each with a different rate, or by variable winding, like the Eibachs.

You measure the rate like I explained earlier. Its usually a ratio, ie.. The first rate compresses at say 300lb/in, the next rate compresses at 600lb/in, the next at 1200lb/in, etc. In the case just described its a 2:1 ratio. Hope this helps.

Alright guys, please calm this down.. let's move on with the subject at hand

So really now the questions is.. Are the stock springs progressive or not. Based on the picture I've seen I can say that they are not. Am I wrong?

Based on G_thang's rationalization, no. The wind and coil is constant throughout the entire stock sport springs.

I thought so. Really the move to a progressive spring (Eibach pro kit) can change the cars handling characteristics completely and possibly for the worst...

I try to educate ppls when they ask questions and I know the answer. I give them real answers and not some biased bs because I lack the knowledge.
If you compress a spring 1 inch, then the deflection is . . . 1 inch. Thanks for the education, Mr. Engineer. You gonna tell me if I want to know how much a pound of feathers weighs, I should put them on a scale?

Don't talk down to people on the interwebz, it's not nice.

Just a note. I've talked to Eibach and Tein and neither company seems to be able to tell me what the factory spring rate is for the sport springs. Tein is unofficially now in the last stages of development and production for their S-Tech and H-Tech lowering springs. I was told possibly April?? I'll have to wait and see. Any thoughts on how the two brands stack up against each other? If the factory springs are in fact linear, then measuring the rate should be straight forward. Then you just need to figure out how to compare the linear factory springs to the aftermarket progressive springs.
