Big gaps between tail lights and body letting water in the trunk
So I picked up my 2010 g37 sedan last week and a few days ago I ended up exploring the trunk to check for moisture since we had some heavy rain lately. It looks like there is a small amount of water coming in through the hole for the electrical plugs for the tail lights, and looking at the housings themselves, there is a pretty sizable gap between the black plastic trim of the housing and the body of the car which is where the water's getting in. It's not letting a massive amount in but enough to soak the foamy piece inside the trunk liner/carpet. Looks like the housing is not fitting flush with the body. I also noticed on both sides, one of the 3 screws that hold the housings in place are missing a nut (the one where the wire guide is hanging on). It doesn't look like adding the nut there would make much of a difference though, everything is pretty snug and doesn't wiggle around (much).
Blah blah long story short look at these pictures, I think someone was messing around in the behind of this car, I only saw a sub $1000 claim on the rear end when I bought it so figured it was nothing major. Does this look like the result of a possible rear ended trunk repair gone wrong? Wondering if anyone has experienced fitment issues like this and what the recommended approach would be to closing this gap, aside from an auto body shop or the Canadian handyman special (duct tape) which I would feel really dirty exposing this car to...
I guess I could try and get a different set of lights to see if the same gap is there, maybe from a wrecker? Would rather not shell out for a brand new set to see the same problem, but I guess that's the way she goes sometimes.
Love the car otherwise! Thanks all.
