2013 G37X Sedan 8000k HID flashing on then off

Hey guys,

I've seen this mentioned on other forums with no definitive answer so I'm hoping someone has more information now.

After replacing the OEM bulbs with after market 8000 HIDs, on start up one side will flash on then off, and can only be stabilized by turning them on and then off a few times. I've read it's the ballasts on the 2011+ models, but no one ever said what I could do so that the 8000ks would work.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I'd imagine you could bypass the OEM ballast and use an aftermarket one, but no idea if that'll solve your problems. I'm assuming these are cheap bulbs?

I couldn't find any "high quality" 8000k bulbs. How would I bypass the ballasts?

Get away from 8k ricer bulbs and go with a good Orsam bulb ... I believe the ballast is required.

i have the Osram CBI, they weren't blue enough for me, and I think 8k is too blue, so you think I'd need to replace the ballasts with aftermarket ones as well?

I have never replaced the bulbs yet so I'm just speculating. As I understand it, the ballast "ignites" the bulb so if the ballasts were fine before you replaced the bulbs they are probably OK. I'm guessing because you bought cheap bulbs, thats your problem. I equate it to buying a $2000 camera body but a $50 lens ... that $2000 body isn't go to make a $50 lens take fantastic pictures. Do yourself a favor ... stay away from blue lights, you may think they look cool but everyone over 20 just shakes their head when they see you go by. Put the CBI's back in, get more Lumens and be done with it ... they look good. Classy vs. Ricey.

You're probably right, and I most likely will use the CBI. But for fun for a little bit I wanted to see what 8000k would be like, and I've seen this question asked over and over for 5+ years now with no actual solution. So I'm curious if anyone actually figured it out, or if they would know how to fix it?
