You got lucky, besides wetsanding will make the taillights pop and look way better than new.

My motto is "Do it right, or don't do it at all."

Lol ouch man, I guess bash away but cars are nothing new to me. I just never thought to permanently sand something down when there was a simple chemical for this exact thing. It took me 15 minutes and mine looked brand new. This sanding process will take all day or more and if the OP doesn't know what he's doing, could easily ruin them as well so, I guess its a toss up.

Wetsanding and using paint stripper are not "the same thing."

I would just buy and install a new set of original tail lights and refrain from misguided mods that don’t really work.

The gameplan is to do it today after work. The way I see it is it doesn't hurt to spend $20 at advance just to give it a shot. Like I said this isn't my first time sanding lights so I'm not going in completely blind. Last car I did this on I used a clearing compound but it wasn't enough to keep the lens from turning hazy. If it turns out good as new then I save a couple hundred bucks. If they end up not turning out so great then I will pick up new ones.
